Gary Warren Gates

BANGOR – Gary W. Gates, 61, died unexpectedly Nov. 12, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 18, 1951, the son of Donald L. and Rena M. (Armstrong) Gates.
Gary graduated from Bangor High School. After high school he served in the Air National Guard and worked for many years in the Bangor area. Gary was an avid photographer and talented musician. He played drums for the band The Grains of Sand. He and his band mates enjoyed a marvelous reunion, after 43 years, in the summer of 2010. Those same dear friends, David Clark, Bill Moores, Chuck McLean and Bruce McCabe provided love, support and fond memories during his final days.
Gary is survived by his four children, Amanda Johnson, Benjamin, Mary and Joseph Gates; two sisters, Dawn Knight of Largo, Fla., and Cherille Johnson of Carmel; nieces, Nicole Knight and Caitlyn Johnson; and nephew, Aaron Knight.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 639 Grandview Ave., Bangor. Family and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments in his honor after the service.
