DANVILLE, Ky. — Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan will seize the campaign spotlight Thursday night for a 90-minute debate, their only faceoff of the 2012 race for the White House.

The encounter between the 69-year-old vice president and 42-year-old Wisconsin congressman is a high-profile interlude between last week’s race-altering debate featuring President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney and next Tuesday’s return engagement.

Romney has gained ground in national and battleground-state surveys in the week since he shared a stage with the president, and even Obama has conceded he performed poorly.

Mocking recent changes in Romney’s rhetoric, Obama told a Miami rally on Thursday, “After running for more than a year in which he called himself severely conservative, Mitt Romney is trying to convince you that he was severely kidding.”

Romney visited with 93-year-old evangelist Billy Graham in North Carolina — “Prayer is the most helpful thing you can do for me,” he told the evangelist — before an evening rally in Asheville.

For Biden, Thursday night’s debate is his first since the 2008 campaign, when he shared a stage with Sarah Palin, then John McCain’s running mate.

Ryan spars frequently with Democrats during debates on legislation on the House floor and in the House Budget Committee, which he chairs, but not in a one-on-one encounter covering 90 minutes and a virtually unlimited range of topics.

For all their differences, the two men share a common objective, to advance the cause of their tickets in a close race for the presidency — and avoid a gaffe that might forever seal their place in the history of debates.

Romney’s choice of Ryan as running mate over the summer cheered conservatives in the House, many of whom regard him as their leader on budget and economic issues. The seven-term lawmaker has authored a pair of deficit-reducing budgets in the past two years that call for spending cuts and changes in Medicare, blueprints that Republicans passed through the House and Obama and his allies in Congress frequently criticize. He also champions a no-tax increase approach to economic policy.

As a senator before becoming vice president, Biden was chairman of the Foreign Relations and Judiciary committees, and he has long experience in national security issues. More recently, he was Obama’s point man in arduous, ultimately unsuccessful negotiations with Republicans on steps to cut the deficit.

Both Ryan and Biden held extensive rehearsals, with stand-ins for their opponents.

Biden turned to Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., who is well-versed in Ryan’s policy views from his tenure as senior Democrat on the Budget Committee.

Ryan’s foil in rehearsal was former Solicitor General Ted Olson, a skillful courtroom advocate.

Martha Raddatz of ABC News had moderator duties.

After they meet next week in Hempstead, N.Y., Obama and Romney will have one more debate, Oct. 22 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Associated Press writers Philip Elliott in Kentucky, Ken Thomas in Florida and Kasie Hunt in North Carolina contributed. Espo reported from Washington.

  1. All the candiates are nothing but lieres an its always been that way ive watch it for 45 years an it gets worse every year . They all lie but there’s nothing we can do about but if we lie we could get hauled to court an locked up . Its about time they be helded to the same standerds as we are

    1. “Its about time they be helded to the same standerds as we are”

that would take a revolution at this point…

    1. Certainly being shouted down at least. This debate is just a tryout for a possible replacement President anyway.

    2. I don’t know about that, Ryan held his ground, kept his cool, and let smiling Biden laugh and interupt his way to a potential loss on this one.

      1. Ryan got destroyed and when Ryan was asked the follow up question about abortion his body language told the truth. He took in a huge breathe, exhaled and looked lost for a few seconds.

        1. I think Ryan laid out his position on abortion rather well and then did a nice job of calling out Biden’s hypocritical position on the issue with his own church and the policies he has supported while in elected office.

          1. your position on the issue, and everyone else’s for that matter, is already decided…..why would you be foolish enough to think the guy would try and persuade you to think otherwise?

          2. He’s not trying to persuade anyone, he’s trying to force them to adhere to his beliefs. To limit the choices women have. He told the bean story to try and give himself some character. He said he would like to stack the Supreme Court and have Roe v. Wade reconsidered. But he also said that he’s fine with abortion in cases of rape and incest. Well guess what — the SJC doesn’t issue decisions like that. It would be either abortion is legal or it’s illegal. They don’t legislate and they wouldn’t be able to carve out exceptions if they decided that abortion in unconstitutional. There is the hypocrisy or the lie in Ryan’s statements.

          3. You need to pay more attention. Ryan never mentioned the SC. Biden brought up the issue of the Supreme Court and made predictions about future appointments by Romney as a scare tactic.

Just another example of the Left not lsitening and only hearing what they want to hear.

          4. Nice try, Ryan absolutely did.

This is an example of you trying to get in a little slam regardless of reality.

          5.  Four of the justices are over 70.It would be hard to imagine at least one of them not being replaced by 2016.

          6.  The problem was the way the question was asked.MR wanted them to explain their personal views.Everyone has personal views on abortion. One of these guys is going to be setting public and health care policy for 300M people. The question should’ve been “What will your policies on abortion bring to America in the next four years?”

          7. Yeah and I guess Ryan was too ashamed to admit what his stance and votes have been and what they will be going forward. Biden pressed him on his votes and Ryan ignored him. Why should a candidate be ashamed of his positions?

          8. Ask NOM that since they’ve used every tactic in the book to stay hidden for four years.Of course they’re ashamed.

          9. Actually Ryan said that unelected judges should NOT be able to weigh in on the matter; it should be up to the people.

You say he wants to limit women’s choices. They already have choices: If you must give in to a biological need to procreate (or more likely have fun), use birth control. Abortion is quite a radical form of birth control when there are so many other ways to prevent it, including crossing your legs. It’s not like going out to your garden and thinning out the newly germinated carrots you don’t want…..

          10. Ryan was referring the the Roe v. Wade decision. He talked about the Supreme Court. You can admit I’m right on that — it won’t hurt.

          11. I’ll admit it because it’s what I said! He referred to the Supreme Court as unelected judges. That was obvious!

          12. Wolfy – do you support “limiting the choices” of armed robbers breaking into your house and murdering you and your family? Do you support removing all support for seniors in nursing homes because they are no longer viable and cannot provide for themselves?

Abortion is murder. When one considers that 40% of all African-American babies are aborted in New York City every year, one can also reasonably assert that abortion is genocide.

          13. You’re talking about crimes and abortion isn’t murder. I’m not gonna have a discussion with a person who makes up their own definitions for crimes.

          14. The only one who seems concerned with controlling womens bodies is you sir, as you are the one who keeps bringing it up.

I believe Ryan’s position is that of support for the unborn human being that is a fetus and IS a human life, therefore deserving of all the other constitutional protections that all other human lives in our country are afforded, the first of which being the right to life.

I find it rather curious when people who reject the concept of god, immediately turn to support those who wish to act as god themselves, choosing which human being survives and which is cut from the womb and terminated.

          15. Oh enough of such pious hypocritical nonsense.  First, you TeaPublicans talk on and on about how much you care about the UNborn.  Well, how much do you care about the BORN?  And even the unborn?  No prenatal care.  No postnatal care.  No HeadStart.  No early childhood education.  No upper level education.  No food assitance.   Just endless tax giveaways to your corporate masters so they can have more mansions and yachts while they kill our jobs.  Endless wars. More trillions to the military industrial complex.  And these poor children?  Once born, you call them “useless riffraff with welfare queen mothers who belong in jail”.  And then you talk about how much you love Jesus.  Jesus would be sickened by the TeaPublicans and their LIES and their ROTTEN actions.

          16. Setting up the BORN with an unsustainable program of dependence on government’s ability to rob the middle class of their money and redistribute it in NOT care and it is not compassionate, it is abusive, immoral, and offensive

the only thing rotten on this board is the stench of you comments and their utter lack of compassion and human responsibility

          17. When two lives are joined biologicaly how do you choose “who’s”  liberty is being violated?

Simple it’s “one” life until seperated!

Otherwise my Big Toe deserves to be protected from me!

          18. Jack ….. do you have a womb?
Do you believe the US government has the right or the responsibility of regulating the womb?  Do you believe that your next door neighbor has the right or responsibility of regulating the womb?
If you do not have a womb and by you moniker I would assume you do not …. then substitute penis for womb and answer the questions again.
The womb in not mechanical incubator … it is an organ within the female body.  It is not separate from her body and should not be regulated by outside entities any more than a male’s testes and penis are separate from the male or should be regulated by outside entities.

          19. this is NOT about a women’s womb you miscreant

the US government has the responsibility to protect LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness

allowing self-righteous murderous women such as yourself to shamelessly destroy another person’s life is not what our government was founded to achieve

if you care so much about your womb, then close your legs or use one of the numerous forms of extremely effective birth control out there to manage it for you….but don’t come crying to the rest of us when you get knocked up by some punk trustafarian in the dirty stall of a nightclub and want to abort the product of your own irresponsible actions, because at that point you are nothing but an ignorant, lowlife murderer…

          20. A doctor can do that. A doctor does not act as God. A doctor can remove a human heart, replace it with the heart of a dead man and restart it. Does that mean he/she is acting as God?

          21. I believe the person getting the new heart had a voice and volunteered for such a procedure under their own free will…

the baby in the womb has no voice and is subject to the murderous whims of self righteous, ignorant “mothers”

          22.  I get it – you think it’s okay to kill unborn babies – probably support assisted suicide and euthanasia as well. Life isn’t precious at all to you – everyone is expendable – anyone deemed unfit – but you have the gall to attack Ryan for putting the lives of everyone first.

          23.  keeping someone alive, just because they are breathing is not respecting life, It’s playing god. It’s also play god to force your believes on someone else. Aborts is a private matter,  don’t have one. Who going to take care of all these unwanted babies? You?

          24. Mitt Romney will start a war in Iran and kill, maim, and disable thousands of young Americans.

That’s Tea Party pro-life right there for ya Johnny Boy.

          25. Iran is Israel’s problem. Let the Israelis take them out. Our only involvement should be using our veto power at the U.N. to cover Israel the way Russia and China use theirs to prop up Syria

          26. Joe Biden won’t shove his religion down other peoples throats Ryan and Romney will do exactly that.

        2. Ryan has a “previously established diagnosis of airway hypersensitivity occasionally treated with an as needed albuterol inhaler.”

        3. Michael Barone reports:

“The instant polls: CNBC had it Ryan 56%-36%, CBS Biden 50%-31%, CNN Ryan 48%-44%, AP Ryan 51%-43%. Not nearly as one-sided as the instant responses to the first presidential debate in Denver. My sense: Biden pumped up partisan Democrats, but failed to win over the voters who are taking a serious look at Romney at a point when he is up in national polls.”

Anyone would become somewhat exasperated in response to the rudest debate performance in television history, yet Ryan kept his composure and stuck to the facts.

      2. You can’t even tell who won.  Biden was supposed to get blown out by this young gun.  Ryan ended up limp and out of ammo.  Admit it, republicans are against a women’s right to choose.
Thank you Joe for making little paulie look like a dope.

          1. Then you will pay for the delivery and care of a child for a women in poverty. You just don’t get it do you?

          2.  Conservatives NEVER pay for their poor policy decisions-real working people do!The anti choicers are pro birth but most certainly anti child and anti family.

          3. ev er hear of taking responsibility for your own actions????   If they know there isnt a life of free handouts waiting for them whenever they have a child, and know they will have to work as hard as the rest of us to support their own children then  maybe they wont pop them out every time they want a raise   maybe it is you liberals that dont get it

          4. Sorry pal,
Not a Lib, an Independent. So let me see, you don’t want abortion, you don’t want free contraception, you don’t want women & children on state aid. You believe everyone is responsible for their own actions (which I agree with), and if you make a mistake, tough luck. So what do you propose? mandatory sterilization for all people below the poverty line, or were you thinking more along the lines of “A Modest Proposal”? For Preventing The Children of Poor People in Ireland
From Being Aburden to Their Parents or Country, and
For Making Them Beneficial to The Public

          5. But for some reason republicans are for men getting free Viagra.  Get a job taxagain.  Also, wipe the chicken off your keyboard, your missing your caps.

          6. 63 hrs this week  you get a job, I am not for free viagra   so dont put us all in the same group

        1. Michael Barone reports:

“The instant polls: CNBC had it Ryan 56%-36%, CBS Biden 50%-31%, CNN Ryan 48%-44%, AP Ryan 51%-43%. I was not educated in public schools, so I may not be as smaaaart as you, but I’d say that adds up to a Ryan win.

          1.  Like Barone isn’t biased.I mean,seriously-The Washington Examiner?Birds won’t poop on that rag.

        2. WHAT? I see your mouth moving Jake but I can’t hear a thing over Biden/moderator interrupting and laughing at YOU. How does that feel? The Libs have become Bully’s … It’s so Sad how desperate you all have become. I like the libs of the 60’s when they made sense and actually did POSITIVE stuff. Now 42 years later they have become what they hated and fought against.

          1. I will pray  for your soul to live long and prosper on a Mormon death planet.
You and your Mormon cult have lost again.  The Romney family loses again.  whaaaaaa!!

      3. I dont know what debate you watched, but Ryan got destroyed.  The minute that Biden mentioned the 47% comment and the fact that the GOP would keep tens of thousands of military over in Afghanistan to watch their oil refineries, Ryan was Dead Meat.  Biden got all of what Obama lost and then some back.  He proved that the Middle Class will be completely destroyed with Romney/Ryan in office and proved the only way women will keep their rights is with Obama back in office.  Romney/Ryan is a very dangerous pair to put in the most important roles of this country and I honestly believe the American People saw that during tonight’s debate.  Now Tuesday, Obama can put Romney away and end this thing.

        1. The middle class is being destroyed NOW by lack of jobs and inflation. If you can, please refute this with facts. And as for women’s rights, which right will I lose if Romney is elected. Do you mean I will have to pay for my own birth control? OH, NO! Please explain in detail, and hurry up and tell me before November 6th, so I can vote correctly. PLEASE EXPLAIN WITH SPECIFICS.

        2. Michael Barone reports:

Biden proved nothing more than the well established fact that he is a complete blowhard and buffoon. He is the best life insurance policy Obama could ever wish for, because absolutely no one can imagine such a loon leading the free world.

      4. Oh how about a little cheese to go with your WHINE.  Your pathetic little Eddie Munster look alike got taken to the woodshed and you know it.  Right wingers always whine and say their guy “held his own” and then attack the WINNER with style foolishness.  And oh yes, the hyprocrisy as well.  It was just fine for the MittTwit last week to gush out reams and reams of nonstop jabbertalk LIES, interrupt, and even interrupt and insult the moderator.  But in your world, that was just “being tough and in control…bla bla bla.”  Typical TeaPublican HYPOCRISY.  Paulie got SLAMMED.  He is not ready for prime time.  DEAL WITH IT.

        1. Miochael Barone reports:

“The instant polls: CNBC had it Ryan 56%-36%, CBS Biden 50%-31%, CNN Ryan 48%-44%, AP Ryan 51%-43%. Not nearly as one-sided as the instant responses to the first presidential debate in Denver. God Bless the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. God Bless the Tea Party. God Bless Limited Government.

          Deal with that!

    3. What debate did you watch?   What the heck is wrong with Joe Biden, his laughing a smiling was so inappropriate.

          1.  Biden may believe in God, but he is NOT a good man! HE IS however, obama’s best insurance policy against assassination!

          2. You should not be threatening the life of a US President.

I hope BDN kicks you off of here and reports your sorry fanny to the Feds.

            Idjit.

          3. He wasn’t threatening Obozo, he was stating why Obozo picked Biden as his running mate, because no one, not even his own party, wants him as President which assures Obozo that he’s safe while in office.

Don’t hope too much from BDN, I’ve been hoping for years that they’d kick off stupid people but alas, my hope is just like Obama’s hope, it’s not materializing.

          4. The next two replies to you don’t add to a good banter. They’re obviously from the ones using “Mitt-Twit in their comments. Like Biden, it’s easier to shout someone down than debate.

          5.  That’s why I didn’t respond to them.   I have no respect for tattletales that just out of pure meanness report the posts of others, the original poster said nothing wrong or threatening.   The liberal mindset is to whine about everything.

          6.  I wish we could read the reply so we could see what it was. That said,I respect your judgment. Please call the FBI as necessary.

          7. If you didn’t read the post don’t just blindly respect the hallucinations of others, the original poster said nothing wrong or threatening.   Base your decisions on facts and reserve your judgement based on those facts.

          8. Biden doesn’t wear it on his sleeve or make his decisions based on faith but for the better good and fairness for all people. That makes him a terrible and unfair person if you’re a Bible Thumping Conservative.

          9. He would make Jesus Christ sick to his stomach.  Does wanting to devistate the middle class so he can give millions more to millionaires make him some of kind of religious hero?  He believes in yachts and mansions for the very few at the expense of the very many.  THAT is his “religion”.

          10. Just like the “prosperity gospel”theives.Look up when the megachurches were asked to provide minimal info to Chuck Grassley about their tax lies. They screamed and nothing was done.

          11. The former statement may be true, but the latter most certainly isn’t, and neither has any bearing on the other.

          12. Why?

            It’s “ALL”  Fiction!

Besides she is a Fraud as she “Milked” the Social Security System in her Elderly years after throwing her fortunes away in self indulgence!

Anyone that believes in that it’s all about Me First Ideology just wants Justifiable reason for their callousness in order to escape their conscience.

          13.  Not only that she was a strong proponent of abortion-her only good quality. Her acolytes like Ryan skip merrily over that.Plus her writing SUCKS.

          14.  The conservatives will be wetting their pants about the Atlas Shrugged movie this week.
Hopefully it will bomb. That would prove that free market that they adore so much works!

          15. A large portion of Catholics, including the nuns, have spoken publicly against the “Ryan Plan” because it would be devastating to the poor and elderly.

          16.  For the most part the nuns are the only people in Catholicism who have valid points, even though they are second class citizens in the Church. The child rapists and clinic bombers have no moral standing and they won’t worry about a Maine winter.Where they’re going it’s toasty and then some.

          17. Ryan has a “previously established diagnosis of airway hypersensitivity occasionally treated with an as needed albuterol inhaler.”

          18. “Actually it’s a nervous laugh from someone is unsure of himself.”

Keep clutchin’ at those straws, buddy!

        1. I always thought you were more level headed than to make such a generic partisan statement. It sounds more like something Wooly would say.

He was laughing as a way to condescend Ryan. Even CBS pundits couldn’t believe how he did his best to make him look young and inexperienced to the point of almost “patting him on the head ” (the Quayle reference of you’re no Kennedy) and is a common method of attack in a debate

        2.  Like contradicting what State Dept. officials had testified to earlier in the day? Nice that you are not burdened with truth!

          1. Extra funding to provide security at embassies was blocked by the Republicans in Congress, but you already knew that.

You’re entitled to your own opinion but you’re not entitled to your own facts.

        3. The past Lieutenant Governor of NY was on TV this morning and stated that Paul Ryan was correct in him claim on Medicare and that Biden was wrong. She was asked how she knew and she stated that she spent 2011 reading the UHC bill and what Ryan stated is in fact in the bill. She further stated that senior will have limited access to healthcare after age 65.

      1. All the political pundits agree that if all you have to talk about is someones personal appearance or demeanor then you are admitting that you lost the debate. Joe Biden  came out strong and he stayed strong through the whole debate . I think the polls will show a strong win for Biden.

          1. Michael Barone reports:

“The instant polls: CNBC had it Ryan 56%-36%, CBS Biden 50%-31%, CNN Ryan 48%-44%, AP Ryan 51%-43%. Tinserblic, no doubt a graduate of our fine public schools, needs some remedial math instruction.

        1. Biden was his typical arrogant and condesending self. He continually interupted because Ryan was scoring points. That is one of the oldest tricks in a debat. When you see that your opponant is making sense, interrupt and try to get him off point.

The defining moment of the debate was when Biden confirmed that the Obama Administration intends to continue to lie about our Ambassador being killed in Lybia.  Biden stated twice that they never knew that the Ambassador and his staff asked for more security forces and that was an absolute lie.

          1. He kept referring to Ryan as ‘friend’.  That is very rude and condescending.  He’s a buffoon just likeh is boss.

          2. Haven’t watched much Cspan have ya?

It is quite common on the floor of the house and senate to call other members friend!

It is a term of respect!

When you live in the ” Vile “world of Fox News reality becomes obscured!

        2. Well, you were wrong. A CNN poll showed Ryan won 48-44. Look at their headlines. Of course, they call that a “draw.”

      2. What debate did we watch?

I don’t know about you, but I watched the Vice-Presidential Debate in which Joe Biden mopped the floor with Paul Ryan. Perhaps you watched the same debate, but with your wingnut goggles on?

Any reasonable person would be turned off by Joke Biden’s constant interruptions (82 over 90 minutes!) and smirking condescension. That it turned you on, Steve, speaks volumes about you.

          1. Paul Ryan is an arrogant, greedy, deceitful, radical right wing twerp. Any reasonable person would be turned off by his destructive, sociopathic worldview and smirking arrogance. That it didn’t turn you off, Danny, speaks volumes about you.

Biden just put the little jerk in his place and called him out on all of the BS he tried to pass off as fact.

          2. Greedy? He wants the American people to keep the money they earned, and for the American people to wake up to the threat created by the massive debt the Dems have led us into.

Ryan and his boss contribute more in one year to the unfortunate than you and I can hope to accomplish in a lifetime.Greedy? Really?

          3.  “Ryan and his boss contribute more in one year to the unfortunate than
you and I can hope to accomplish in a lifetime.Greedy? Really?”  And, that helped you and your family and your less fortunate and older relatives … how??

          4. Have you ever heard the Bible story where some rich men throw gold coins in the Temple collection box, and a poor old woman throws in a single copper coin, and Christ tells his disciples that she’s given far more than the rich men did? Just a little story whose meaning you might want to think about.

          5. “”SPECIAL NOTE OF CAUTION #2: The sample of debate-watchers in this poll were 31% Democratic and 33% Republican. That indicates that the sample of debate watchers is about eight points more Republican than an average CNN poll of all Americans, so the respondents were more Republican than the general public.””
            http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/pollingcenter/polls/3262

Funny how you guys were screaming how bias the polls are, but now you’re found one you like (that those who did the poll admit was flawed), suddenly you love the polls! That’s hypocrisy.

          6. Nope, sorry. By any even remotely objectively appraisal, Biden won hands down. Sorry that the results irritate you.

        1. Yes, calling what your debate opponent states “stuff” and “malarkey” is quite articulate…….

          1. Articulate means being  able to express oneself through  communication!

We ALL know what “Stuff “and “Marlakey” refers to!

            Bovine Fodder!

          2. LOL! I hope you don’t run out of coffee this morning…..hopefully you stocked up on the D.D’s…….

      3. Good Lord, the wingnuts are hitting this page hard, aren’t they?

Well, go ahead, wingnuts, spew your nonsense all over this comment section, give all the loony right wing comments ridiculously large numbers of likes.

It won’t change the fact that your little twerp of a candidate got his sorry, lying behind handed to him by a guy who’s usually seen as a gaffe-prone old fart.

      4. Crazy Joe. That guy is our VP? Ouch. One heartbeat away..
What does this tell you about Obama’s decision making abilities?

        1. And, the prospect of having Ryan a heartbeat away from the Presidency is scary and says even more about Romney’s decision making abilities!  All Romney did was cater to the extremists, for which Ryan is a certifiable poster boy!

    4.  You like rude, condescending old white men, don’t you Kevin! You must share a lot in common with Biden.

      1. I suppose that’s rather wise of you. Biden in the Oval Office would be bad news for the Repubs and the Tea Party. He doesn’t tolerate any of that bullcrap the way his boss does.

  2. What is with the moderator?? Sounds like a Obama supporter.
Had to turn the crap off after only ten minutes.. She wouldn’t let Ryan expain anything. Yet Biden can repeat sound cut after sound cut without interuption..

    1.  She has offered to let him explain things several times.  He has refused to.  That is not the moderators fault.

      1.  I guess you would rather have Ryan lie right to your face like Biden did or make very specific promises that cannot ever be fulfilled.

        1.  Ryan did lie to our faces several times.  You should check out Factcheck on the debate performance.  The worst thing they got Biden for was overstating by 37 billion dollars how much Ryan tried to cut the state department budget which helped protect the embassies.

      2. hard to explain anything when that old goat would keep talking over him and them the moderator asks another question,Im not blaming the moderator but to say ryan would not answer questions is in accurate, the only way he could have been to shove those shiny dentures down bidens throat.

    2. Martha was with the Boston ABC affiliate for years, starting out with on scene reporting then working up. I have no Idea where she is now.
In the beginning, she seemed to let Biden talk over Ryan, but, to her credit, she has cross examined  some of Biden’s remarks. This debate means squat anyway.

          1. Correct. Just another day at the office for Joke Biden. Let’s make sure it ain’t oval come Novemebr.

    3. Yup!  Ryan got a spankin!  Big Time.  So if a Repub wins a debate, it’s superior oration and if a democrat wins, it’s a bad moderator.  i’ll have to remember that next time. LOL

          1. Michelle Malkin seems to be one bitter woman.  Anyone know why that is?  The few times I have seen her she was angry about whatever it was they were talking about.  Man, I’d hate to wake up next to THAT in the morning.

          2. Please, what about Nancy Pelosi being a bitter woman? I looked up “bitter woman” with Wiki and it shows a picture of Pelosi.

“The few times I have seen her she was angry about whatever it was they were talking about. ” -TrainguyJim

Well aint that special !!! They use things called words and put them together to make sentences to express ideas and thoughts. I’m sure they were using English…Sorry the next time they should use large colored blocks just so you can understand their confusing conversation. I’m sure you understand MSNBC and Current very well. go and listen to your comfort zone.

            -peace

          3. probably doesn’t like seeing the country going downhill under Obama. more people should be bitter

As Dean Wormer of Animal House fame might say, “Rude, obnoxious and wrong is no way to go through life, my boy.”

        1. OK  whatever!  He took the wind out of Ryans sails, called him on his lies, and made him look downright foolish on every issue.

    4. Ryan can’t explain things because he does not know if his words are true or not.
He did get a bill passed to rename a post office.  That definitely qualifies him to choose what a women does with her body.  He doesn’t even know where the Marines serve.

    5. Wrong Moderator.  She lost CONTROL of the situation.  This was a debate gone wrong.  No control.  Can’t believe the conduct of a sitting VP.  Our country should be embarrassed….

    6. As usual, you’re wrong. The breakdown is that Ryan got to speak for a longer time than Biden. She certainly did a better job than that old fool Lehrer.Tom Lehrer would’ve done better.
We need a time of possession clock just like football.

      1.  When Rush becomes a respected journalist instead of a tabloid reporter.  Nobody asks why the enquirer doesn’t get a seat at the table or the Weekly World News.  Maybe we could get Batboy to moderate if we are going to stoop to Rush’s level.

  3. Joe kick the little weasel’s skinny but*.  Ryan is not ready for prime time, he insulted our troops with his lack of knowledge and he showed the true republican desire to make decisions for women.
Joe Biden scores 10, Paul Ryan -1.

    1. Paul Ryan unhinged his jaw and swallowed Biden whole.  When the facts are on your side, pound on the facts, when the evidence is on your side, pound on the evidence, when nothing is on your side, pound on the table.  Biden did a lot of pounding on the table.  Between the smirks, and almost uncontrollable laughter, it really makes me wonder what is going on in Biden’s head.

        1. Biden was rude, boorish, kept interrupting, and was an overall blowhard.  Ryan wins on style and substance.  But I forgot, most people that read the BDN are drinking the Obama/Biden kool aid….

      1. It is easy to laugh when a young boy is caught lying.  Ryan lost big time and ruined any chance of Willard being the first bishop of a cult to become president.

  4. Ryan promised that the wealthy would pay more into Medicare, but receive less in benefits. The poor would pay less and receive more in benefits. You know darn well if that came out of anyone’s mouth on the left they’d be screaming bloody murder about socialism, about the redistribution of wealth. So you guys on the right — when you decry socialism, do you actually mean it or is it just a fun attack to launch on an opponent?

    1. “A fetus is not a human life. It cannot survive outside the womb.”

Neither can a newborn infant without constant care.   Logically, then, a newborn is not a human life according to your standard.

Gotta hand it to you, though.  One of the better red herring non-responses I’ve seen from a leftist.

      1. What is so hard to understand that a fetus is not a human life and that it cannot survive outside the womb?

A newborn infant though is a human life and yes, it will need constant care to stay alive but then again so will many elderly people. If we do not provide a lot of elderly people constant care they would simply die.

Do you now understand how dumb your logic is?

        1. Talk about dumb!  Why is it so hard to understand that a fetus is a hyuman life and often can survive with care outside the womb.  Geesh.

          1. The overwhelming majority of abortions are performed prior to the development of organs that would allow a fetus to survive even with extensive medical assistance.
Miscarriages are also called spontaneous abortions …… and they occur more often than people realize, often before the female knows she is pregnant ….. should women be sanctioned or put into a specialized medical facility to prevent these miscarriages or use extraordinary measures to ensure these fetuses survive or artificially kept alive ?

          2. miscarriages are NOT intentional terminations of life…and NOBODY is suggesting they are except for you

            grow up

          3. I might suggest that take a look around the country and see where this is all headed.  Check legislation proposed in Georgia and Tennessee and tell me again that miscarriages/spontaneous abortions are not in the sights of some of the most radical politicians for proposed legal sanctions against women.  Women would need to “prove” their miscarriage was a miscarriage.  Think about that …. a woman is having a miscarriage or has just had one and must “prove” she didn’t cause it (ie a self-induced abortion)??  How about the woman in Iowa a couple years ago who was arrested for attempted feticide after seeking medical attention after she fell down a flight of stairs?
            Wake up

        2. He’s trying to get slams in without even understanding the logic of the court decision. It’s willful ignorance. Plain and simple.

        3.  So you support the right to abort them all, fetuses, babies, the elderly, the disabled.  Anyone who cannot survive on their own outside of the womb.

      2. No, that’s not Kevin’s standard, that’s the Supreme Court’s standard. Try reading Roe v. Wade before acting like you’re the smart guy around here.

      3. dirigodad ….. when you suddenly and magically discover a womb in your lower abdomen, you are free to have the government and your neighbors have domain over it.  On the other hand, when you demand the government regulate your and every others male’s testes and penis … mandating what you can and cannot do with those organs that are a part of your body ….

  5. Joe best check up on his Lybia comments. If what he said is really what he meant, then him and the pres are a disgtace. Overall…it was a draw. For being classless…Biden won hands down.

      1. Yes. But isn’t it delicious that the Clinton News Network polled for a Ryan win? You own hypocrisy by bringing this up. Nice job!

        1. Do you even read comments before you reply to them? CNN put a special note on the polls saying it’s inaccurate because they over sampled Republicans.

          1. Dude, read the link I posted. It’s right there on the poll. They admit the poll is flawed and bias.

  6. Loved when Joe told Ryan, that he believed Romney’s stance on a subject was a certain way and then corrected himself because he wasnt sure if Romney changed his mind yet or not….that was priceless.

  7. not one straight answer from Bumbling Biden every answer he gave was repeating the same crap over and over, and as Romney put it in his debate with Obummer, repeating thing over and over does not make them true or believeable

  8. I have evidence. Water falls from the sky in the form of rain when it succumbs to the forces of gravity. Then, the very same water turns around and evaporates back up into thin air, thereby laughing at the very same gravity that put it there in the first place. How would that be possible without divine intervention? More evidence? There is no end to the universe. You could have a telescope that increased it’s power by a billion times a second for your entire lifetime and you still would not be able to see past the end of your nose on the scale of the universe. How is that possible without divine intervention? I guess some things we just have to take on faith. The existence of God is one of them.

    1. I never comment on this site, but this just drove me crazy.  Your own personal ignorance on the laws of physics is not evidence of the Divine.   This is your inner caveman cowering at the sound of thunder.   Knowledge will set you free, my friend.  (If you were being sarcastic, I apologize.)

      1. What law of physics explains that there is no end to the universe? Everything has an end but that. You are right, knowledge does set you free, but so does faith. My faith enables me to live my life to the fullest, safe in the knowledge that when my day comes, I will be moving on to a better place. It is a very liberating feeling that I would not trade for anything in the world. An atheist believes that when you die that’s it, the eternal dirt nap. Call me a caveman or ignorant, but I believe otherwise.

        1. Actually, there is evidence to indicate that the universe is finite:
          http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/10/1008_031008_finiteuniverse.html

If faith is what it takes to let you live your life to the fullest, I’m not going to try any harder to take that crutch away from you than ask that you do some honest research into the natural processes you write of.  It is wonderful, seemingly miraculous, but magic is not required.  The way I see it, you can either take the easy way of faith, or take the difficult route and learn how things work.  Faith is an immediate, easy answer.  Knowledge is a never ending struggle to understand.  I
chose the struggle, and I find life all the richer for it, despite what little I understand.  And who knows, in the end perhaps we will even find evidence that some god created it all after all…

      1. Ah, an attempt at whit. Surely you can do “gooder” than that. I changed school systems 14 times and somehow managed to graduate high school in 1978. Some of the schools were “gooder”, some were “worser”. One of the most interesting was Cape Canaveral Elementary School where I got to be part of the great social experiment known as integration.  I was in one of the first interracial classes.

      1. It is evaporation, actually. Condensation is the act of water being extracted from the air. Evaporation is the act of  water rising back up into the air. Laughing at gravity

          1. Wasn’t really an apology, I just used the wrong term. Still doesn’t prove God exists. I am a Christian, by the way, what you are describing does not prove anything.

  9. I am a Libertarian so I do not have a dog in this fight, but Biden smoked Ryan. Made him look like an empty suit.

  10. BWHAHAHAHAHAHA… Little Paulie “Eddie Munster” Ryan got POUNDED TO PIECES !  He and MittTwit RobMe’s LIES were exposed in a big way.  Little Paulie got STEAMROLLED, and LOST hands down.

    1. Regarding Biden’s “interruptions”-there’s a VERY good reason he interrupted.Ryan was setting himself up for a campaign ad soundbite  but unless they can erase Biden’s voice over it won’t work.Even if they did,the correct audio is there.

  11. Biden interrupted Ryan 82 times and was extremely disrespectful while pushing outright lies that contradict the White House and even the State Department. Nothing new for this career political hack – Biden needs to be retired from public office- he personifies what is wrong with Washington – Joe Biden is on par with other career Senators (VP now obviously) who live in a bubble. Many readers on here will not call out Biden for being a pathological liar though – he gets a free pass from his simple minded fan base.

    1. It’s about someone laughs in Ryan’s face for his ridiculous ideas.

Ryan says his math absolutely works out, but then admits the plan isn’t even developed yet. How then can the math work out? I think you’re talking about yourself with your “simple minded fan base” and “pathological liar” comments.

    2. Absolutely correct!  Last night Biden was a rude, condescending, insufferable jackass!  It was difficult to push back ones anger sufficiently to allow some concentration on the substance of the debate.

I also thought the “moderator” did a very poor (and questionably biased) job.  I much preferred Jim Lehrer’s job during the first presidential debate!

  12. Being over  55, Paul Ryan scares me and Joe was correct. We were in a big mess after Bush and it will take some time to get ourselves back in order. Bill Clinton left the USA in good shape so I believe we need to stay the course. I need social security and Medicare not some wacked out voucher plan.

    1.  If you’re over 55,you should be fine.Even Rmoney has said that is the cutoff number(not that I believe him on that either)Notice that when LePage went after the DEL,etc.he used a cutoff of between 48-54.NOBODY will address the real problem-the millions under 40 who are getting”mental disability”benefits for decades for NO REASON WHATSOEVER!

    2. If the whole economy goes to crap then everything is out the window including your social security and medicare! Have you seen what is happening in Spain and Greece lately? If we were in a “big mess ” after Bush where are we now? A trillion a year added to the deficit with no end in sight. The big mess has become a gigantic mess and Obama owns it. He continues to provide NO leadership. That is what this country is sorely lacking. Stay the course over the proverbial cliff with smilin’ Joe and Barry O all the while invoking the impeached intern loving adulterer. Nice. Let’s move on. January 13, 2013. End of an error.

  13. I’ll bet you’re one of the ones who gets riled up when someone wants to abort puppies or kittens.  You are the only one smoking anything in this debate.  When you can’t ‘win’ (and you can’t) with truth/facts, you resort to schoolyard name calling.  Purile.

  14. Paul Ryan was duller then Al Gore.  Ryan and his neocon beliefs have no place in the white house.  Go rename a post office paul.

  15. For Democrats, at best, it was a draw. That means Romney carries the momentum of the debate that really mattered. And the polls are showing him on his way to a near landslide.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time. – Abraham Lincoln

  16. If “swinging” succinctly states how the debate started, then Joe Biden effectively ended it by decking Paul Ryan.

And as he was getting pummeled a punch drunk Ryan kept dropping his guard by trying cast blame that this administration was doing what Ryan and all Congressional Republicans were trying to do and that is to blame the others guy for what he and other Republicans have tried to cause.  This coming from one of the Republican operatives in the House that has been instrumental in trying to do what the Republican leader of the Senate said was their one and only goal: to make this a one term president.

In spite of their efforts to damage any progress to dig out of the mess Bush-Cheney caused, President Obama has valiantly moved forward in spite of the way Republicans have tried to get their one and only goal of perpetrate on America the very failure they now try to blame on the other guy.

No wonder Republicans in Congress have only a 7% approval rating which places them down there with Dick Cheney and a bad case of acne.  Meanwhile, who won?  As seen in this debate by Biden, the American people with whom Biden and President Obama have been standing with and fighting
for as Republicans have been intentionally trying to make a mess of the country.

  17. This debate hardly matters. Anyone who would take Joke Biden seriously should have his/her head examined. He fired up his liberal loon base, and turn off every reasonable person with his obnoxious smirks and interruptions. Instant broadcast polls reveal a Ryan win, except for cBS, where only leftists go for their news.

    1. Paul Ryan got caught with his pants down.  He was a crying child who apparently is thin skinned with0ut the knowledge that women will actually be voting in the election.  TKO – Biden, paul ryan can crawl back in his hole where he can rename another post office.
Oh Danny boy, you lost again.

      1. ryan was confronted b ya  lying lunatic and handled it like i handle my doddering, senile father-in-law. unfortunately, keeping the peace at thanksgiving is a lot less important than who leads this country.Biden proved himself to be an effective well trained attack dog and nothing more.Ryan was patient in the face of rudeness and tried to stay on point. to any civilized person ryan was clearly the better man.

      2. At least you and wolfy agree. Most people who watched don’t. Independents and women don’t. TKO Biden? You must have a real bad hangover today. Take a look at the polling. A draw maybe but most calling it a win for Ryan. If nothing else for civility. Biden’s closing remarks were “I stand on my record”. What was that?! Biden on Libya. Blame someone else. Yikes!

        1. You’re whining elsewhere about disrespect and then you are calling me wolfy? Is your “Yikes!” remark in regards to your hypocrisy?

          1. No, I’m just pointed out that you’re engaging in hypocrisy.

You complain about disrespect and then you do the exact same thing yourself. It’s pathetic — have some principles and integrity.

          2. You complain about me complaining about disrespect and then you do the exact same thing yourself. It’s pathetic — have some principles and integrity.
            (I learned this from you!)

          3. I’m not the one complaining about disrespect. I’m just pointing out your hypocrisy.

Is this all you’re interested in? Just getting in little jabs? That’s fine, but quit pretending like you care about substance then.

    2. It’s about time someone laughs in the face of Ryan. He’s been pushing the same nonsense for years now — he has had the treatment he got last night coming.

  18. Kevin, I noticed your comment above was flagged, and you received multiple responses indicating the foulness of your post. You are doing yourself and the positions you support damage with your ridiculous writing. Accusing posters of smoking drugs is hardly original, or polite. Read the rules and try to stick to them, ok?

    1. Yes, I also notice that many of Kevin’s posts have been flagged and taken down, even though there was nothing even remotely offensive about any of them.

I guess that goes to prove correct my theory that conservatives are exceptionally thin-skinned and can’t stand to tolerate even the slightest bit of criticism or mockery, no matter how well-deserved.

  19. Bully lies from the self-exalted party of peace and compassion…..Once upon a time women could slap a Hollywood glove or hand across the mouth of a Biden male type.

Biden claimed they weren’t given a clue from intelligence relative to the Libyan situation. Take that lipstick-stained note out of *his* back pocket!

You are in the minority again, Mr. Libertarian.

  21. The “illustrious” VP showed himself to be the attack dog as expected, with baring his pearly whites, disrespectfully interrupting Congressman Paul Ryan 82 times and perpetuating the lies that are abundant from this administration.
Evidently, the so-called gaffes of Biden have been carefully calculated over these past 5 years of campaigning and being in office, or he had memorized the script so carefully that there was no chance of “mis-speaking.”  Tell the lies often enought, and eventually the dumbed down and even some smarter ones will believe them!

    1. I keep seeing this “82 times” number — you guys must have gotten your daily talking points memo. Good job parroting them!

      1. Ok. So he interupted TOO MANY TIMES. Anyone who watched knows that. Did you watch or are your just reading your talking points? He was rude and condescending. He called Ryan “my friend” over and over using a sarcastic tone. Smiling. Smirking and just being “Joe”. Unfortunately just being “Joe” is just being a first class jerk. My wife and I watched and she could not take the split screen showing Biden’s antics. I turned off the sound and it was actually worse so she stopped watching it altogether. The moderator was horrible. Why was she even there? It would have been better just to turn them loose on stage by themselves which is pretty much what happened. I tuned in for a debate on the issues and got a comedy routine parody by the vice president. He is your guy wolfy. Defend the indefensible. I’d like to hear it.

        1. I’m not the one regurgitating talking points here — nice try on spinning it around.

I’m glad Biden interrupted Ryan and laugh in him. It’s about time somebody does. I’d be against the interruptions if Ryan was actually saying things of substance, but he wasn’t. He had non-math, lies (somehow his tax plan isn’t created yet, but the math DEFINITELY adds up), and talking points.

Why couldn’t Ryan indicate what they would be doing differently in the middle east? They love to slam the Obama administration for all their failures, but then they can’t even articulate specifically what they’d be doing differently.

I care about substance and I couldn’t care less about these stupid little details like how Biden pointed his finger too much or Ryan drank too much water. I don’t care. I care about their policies and the policies that Romney/Ryan are pushing are junk. Seems you’re the opposite of me, because you watched the debate with the sound off.

          1. You are going to be soooooo disappointed in November. You don’t care about “stupid little details” which automatically qualifies you for life membership in the Joe Biden fan club. I did try to watch with the sound off so my wife would stay in the room. That didn’t work. She left the room. I bet that many other women did the same thing and many men turned to the Thursday Night Football for relief from the Joe Show. Ryan was right to quote Obama by saying if you can’t run on your record you need to demonize the opposition. That was the best Biden could do last night and he failed. Miserably. Still haven’t heard your defense of Joe being Joe. Sounds like you liked it.

          2. And you’ve taken my remarks out of context, so again, you prove you don’t care about substance and that Romney is perfect for you.

You watched the debate with the sound off, you complain about these irrelevant thing and then you want us to believe that you tuned in for a substantive debate? Get real.

I don’t need to defend Joe. Actually read my comments before mouthing off.

          3. Read for comprehension. I did turn off the sound for a couple of minutes until my wife was so disgusted by your Joe’s antics that she got up and left the room. I then turned the sound back on and watched the Joe Show through until the end. I do care about substance that is why Romney is perfect for me. Obama had his chance and he buried the middle class just like Joe said. He offered hope and change and gave us nothing. Now it is time for someone else to give it a try. Sunday, January 13, 2013. End of an error.

          4. You’re saying meaningless things just like the candidates you support.

How does Romney/Ryan’s tax plan math add up if they don’t have a plan yet?
How come Romney/Ryan can launch such intense criticisms of the current administration’s handling of the middle east, but refuse to articulate what they’d do differently?

Just like Romney/Ryan, you’re all talk and no substance.

          5. Harry you are fighting a losing battle!  One cannot debate someone who is of the “don’t bother me with facts, my mind is made up already” school!

        2. My wife felt the exact same way. While I thought Biden actually did better than I expected in the debate (and Ryan was much better at foreign policy than I expected), I don’t think Biden did his ticket any favors with women voters.

  22. Biden sat there and lied about Libya and what this administration did and did not know and do.   Biden chose to double down on the lie and the cover up.

Actually, it would be even worse if Biden actually believes what he said.

  23. Part that bother me is how much money did Biden pay to have his teeth spray painted white! hopefully not as much as he spent on the hair plugs. Guy is an embarrassment.

      1. Elected to the Senate in 1972, he had his time/chance to be a leader, the only thing he is proving is this country needs term limits, he is the biggest reason why Washington needs to change, and he looks/acts like a buffoon, and should of stopped trying to be a leader 25+ years ago.

In similar vein, buffoon is a term for someone who provides amusement through inappropriate appearance and/or behavior

        1. LOL, nice try at changing the subject.

You said the part that bothered you was Biden’s looks. That’s what you came here to talk about, like somehow that’s what’s important in a leader.

Your comment is a bit buffoonish to me.

  24. Biden asserted the economic crash “… came from this man (Ryan) voting to put two wars on a credit card, at the same time, put a prescription drug plan on the credit card, a trillion dollar tax cut for the very wealthy. I was there, I voted against them, I said, ‘No, we can’t afford that.’”

    It ain’t so, Joe.

According to the Washington Post:”Sen. Biden voted for the Afghanistan resolution on Sept. 14, 2001 which authorized “the use of United States Armed Forces against those responsible for the recent attacks launched against the United States. And on Oct. 11, 2002, Biden voted for a resolution authorizing unilateral military action in Iraq.”

      1. When he said his math for his tax plan absolutely adds up, then admitted there actually isn’t a real plan yet. If you don’t actually have an equation, how can you add it up?

        1. Quantify life all you want as numbers are important but what
we’re debating here is leadership ability. A sitting Vice President willing to lambast
a non-Vice President for his own administration’s lack of a budget is cause for
disrespect from voters. Why are you so willing to blame and accuse non-Vice
President Ryan of no plan when there has been no Federal budget from this
sitting administration for years? An unpresented plan is not a lie. It is a
responsibility of the current Office which reveals itself as the true lie and repudiation of oath.

The best quantified polls fail because the human spirit is
elusive. Every voter will contribute his or her truth on November 6.

          1. Quit changing the subject. You asked for a lie and I gave you one. Ryan said his numbers add up, but the numbers and specifics don’t even exist yet.

          2. I repeat, “An unpresented plan is not a lie.”

I repeat,  “Why are you so willing to blame and accuse non-Vice President Ryan of no plan when there has been no Federal budget from this sitting administration for years?

My life takes me off the computer for now but will be back to volley later.

          3. I repeat — he said his math adds up. That’s a lie. It doesn’t add up and it will never add up. That’s the lie.

          4. He proved it. He was asked for specifics as to which loopholes he was closed and he said he didn’t know yet. That means there is no equation to check, to add up. Then he said a drop in the margins would be 1.2 trillion less in revenue and that every single loophole and deduction adds up to 1.1 trillion. He also said that he wouldn’t take away the middle class’s deductions and loopholes. That means he needs to some how get to 1.2 trillion to be revenue neutral, despite the fact that there is much less than 1.1 trillion in loopholes (especially if he won’t touch the middle class).

That doesn’t add up and you know it.

          5. Paul Ryan made perfect sense to me. Until Obama assumed the Office he did not have access to information with which he could have arrived at a qualified opinion, judgement or decision. Is that a fair statement? Of course it is.

Why can you not extend the same standard to the non-Office holder challengers in this election cycle? I respect Paul Ryan for the wisdom he displayed for not shooting his mouth off like he knew everything that (conversely) Obama has had full access to and made his decisions upon  but cannot claim pride in his actions because there’s no there there…and he knows it.

          6. You’re just changing the subject and you’re ignoring what I wrote. That tells me that you probably don’t have a real answer or response for me. I’m not going to have a discussion with someone who is wrong, but thinks they can be right by just pointing elsewhere. I’m not that easily distracted — sorry.

          7. As you refuse to address challenges to your tunnel vision and rigid ideology I agree. This volley is officially over.

        1. I have no problem discerning truth and have an opinion at least as equal as yours. RoundPonda can speak for herself if indeed he/she has proof of truth.

      2.  Everything he said..!!!. He EVADED giving details because he and Romney want to GUT Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, raise taxes for the middle class and give everything to the Stinking Rich…. And YOU support him………….

    1. Every time other presidents have lowered the tax rates, revenues to the federal gov’t have increased.  Look it up.

  25. The most important, over looked comment in the debate was Biden throwing the intelligence community under the bus about Libya, saying we didn’t know! Then say Iran doesn’t have a bomb because those same intelligence folks says so? Nothing to see her folks just move along.

    1. Agreed and people cannot overlook the continued back and forth bantering re: Libya by this administration and the absolute fact that this administration cannot get their supposed facts in order and stand up and place accountability where it belongs, which is with the current President & his administration….

        1.  Actually he did respond with an answer “He immediately struck back with the absurdity of placing armed guards
outside of the U.S. Embassy in Paris but not providing the same in
Libya” Put Marines at the Libyan Embassy would be a good start! And a different approach.

          1. Which Biden pointed out that Ryan decreased funding for.

Either way, if the Obama has been such an abysmal failure in the middle east, why couldn’t Ryan come up with more than that? More than placing armed guards? Is that all Obama has done wrong? How does that constitute an abysmal failure?

          2.  Unnecessary death of an American Ambassador and 4 others and lying about why/how it happend for two weeks is enough for me.

          3. Fine, but answer what they should be doing differently. They were saying how awful the handling of the middle east has been all along, not only after the attacks happened.

          4.  I did, more guards when your people request them in a Terrorist rich environment, instead of ignoring it, which is what Hillary Clinton and other in teh Obama administration did. It has nothign to do with Budgets. We haven’t had one, Obama submitted his fiscal year 2013 budget proposal on Feb. 13, 2012, House Republicans put it up for a floor vote.

            The result: 414-0.

It starts there and a long list of what we should be doing differently.

          5. Here is a few on my list, but we will never agree on any thing, and I am OK with that,
            Increased
the deficit more than $4 trillion, causing the first-ever
downgrade in the U.S. credit rating and for the first time raising
serious questions about U.S. financial stability.Issued
106 new major rules that cost U.S. businesses $11 billion in
implementation and more than $46 billion each year.
Cut authorization of permits restricting drilling in Gulf and

slowed permitting of new oil drilling so our future oil supply
will be restricted and gas prices will be higher.Mandated
third party certification for all manufacturers participating
in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program, which
has raised costs for manufacturers and created a disincentive for
            participation in the program.
Funded Solyndra and other unworthy companies, wasting taxpayer
money but also discouraging other privately funded companies from
entering the market.Only moved on Bush free trade agreements and
failed to enter one new free trade agreement, even while our
competitors have entered many, making U.S. goods more expensive to
            export.
Pushed for passage of card check legislation that would
infringe upon the rights of workers and make the United States a
less desirable place to open a business.
Imposed a requirement that every employer with more than 49
employees provide health care insurance or pay a fine.Sought and signed the
Dodd-Frank financial reform law with its hundreds of new rules
and restrictions that impose billions in new costs on financial
            companies.Advocated for the “Buffett
Rule,” which would discourage U.S. investment and barely dent
            the deficit.Created
new emissions standards for industrial boilers that may cost
hundreds of thousands of U.S. businesses a total of $14.5
            billion.Set
new energy-use mandates for many products, discouraging
innovation and consumer choice and raising product costs.Neglected to do anything about providing
guns to Mexico drug cartels, which resulted in the death of
U.S. Border Patrol agents, causing worldwide doubt as to U.S. rule
of law.Perpetuated the fraud of “green
jobs” to sell and justify stimulus funds with little evidence
to support the market for these jobs.

          6. That’s not what I asked and you know it. We’re talking the middle east. You and Ryan can’t answer the question, because you don’t have an answer. That’s painfully obvious.

          7. No, you didn’t answer the question. What should be done differently in the middle east. Neither you nor Ryan answered the question. Dodd-Frank has nothing to do with the middle east.

Not only that, you’re a plagiarist. That isn’t your list, you copied and pasted it from the internet.
            http://spectator.org/archives/2012/04/27/the-list-could-be-longer/print
You just stole it from elsewhere. No wonder you love Romney/Ryan, you have blatant dishonesty in common with them.

          8. Romney is not my 1st choice so saying I love him is incorrect, and  I found several articles that I found things to add to my list that I do not agree with. If I had just copied and pasted it would of been much larger

1st and foremost we need to protect our American citizens in the middle east Obama has failed at that. Proven tow weeks ago.

We will never agree so, I need to go to work. enjoy your day, BDN’ing

          9. You just copied and pasted! It’s verbatim from the link I posted. You’re not honest, just like your candidate isn’t honest.

          10. An excellent post!

But you are correct. The two or three BO/Biden apologists who are trying to dominate this thread with their inane, bigoted posts will never agree with any of it!

          11. Did you hold Bush and Cheney accountable for the deaths of 3000 Americans on September 11, 2001?

            Well did you?

          12. Oh – I forget – the republican brain cannot remember anything before January 20, 2009 – lol.

            Yessah

          13. And the democrat brain can’t remember anything that has happened after January 20, 2009 hence the constant blame bush blame bush blame bush broken record.

          14.  Plus 4000+ fine young men and women dead  in the eight years following, not to mention the tens of thousands who will need lifelong care?

          15. Paul Ryan needs another drink.  Maybe he was too hung over to debate.  What ever he had in his cup it did not help.  Maybe some free republican Viagra would have helped the little boy.

  26. Once again Biden proves it time for the adults to take back control of the country!

The last time we saw an old senile white man giggle that much he was wearing a straight jacket!!!

We gals know that if we want to be lectured to by a condescending old white guy, we’ll just talk to our husbands!

No wonder they call him Biteme!!!

  27. I always thought Biden was an ok guy but after last night, he demonstrated a side of him which wasn’t very nice. He was rude, kept interrupting Paul and and tried to prevent Paul from expressing his thought. We teach our children not to interrupt others, use manners and don’t try to bully others. Sorry Joe, your out of here.

  28. Joe Biden acted like he was cordially speaking with the folks on the View or casually laughing and making light of our country’s issues and problems with Letterman or Leno…..Joe Biden was disrespful of Paul Ryan and kept whining about having equal time to speak when in fact he had more than adequate time…..IMHO, his disrespect for his debating opponent showed a like disrespect for all American citizens, America’s allies and for the seriousness of America’s most important issues at hand…..he reflects the contemptuous and dismissive attitude of the current President and administration and America cannot continue to wait for the hope and change promised by this President 4 years ago…..it’ s all a bunch of “stuff” and “malarkey” he stated….this is the verbiage used by the VP folks….time for a Romney & Ryan administration…….

    1. You guys scream about political correctness one minute and then cry about disrespect the other. You can’t have it both ways unless you’re comfortable with being a hypocrite.

    2. Politics can be tough on the weak and Paul Ryan was weak on defense and the economy.  He has a plan but it is a secret.  He is against the women’s rights and supports rape except forceable rape.  Sorry, American’s are not ready for the cult leader Romney, and his side kick Willard-boy.
There may be a Mormon death planet just for you just as there is one for Mitt.

      1. You mean the 47% that pays no federal income tax, but keeps demanding more and more freebies?  Have you looked in a mirror lately?

        1. Yeah – I always chuckle when the Party of Low Taxation berates those who do not pay income taxes – hypocrites.

and yeah – I pay income taxes.

          Yessah

      2. He does not disrespect the 47% but he does recognize that reducing the tax burden for people who don’t pay any probably is not going to interest them. What percentage of the American public does Obama– the Hollywood elitist-Harvard guy-who has never worked a day in his life disrespect? Calculate that one and get back to me.

        1. “the Hollywood elitist-Harvard guy-who has never worked a day in his life”  your description of Romney is perfect.  Thanks for posting! :)

  29. Biden is a heartbeat away from being president. Frightening. The pressure of the debate was WAY too much for him. Being president would be impossible. I wonder how many people switched over to Thursday Night Football. Bet their ratings were through the roof.

  30.  If I wanted to see an old, rude, condescending white man,I’d have my choice,Akin,Boehner,McConnell-the list goes on a long ways.

  31. I no longer wonder why Congress has a 7% percent approval rating and can’t seem to get anything done! Biden and his condensending, no facts bared are a prime example. Too bad my tax dollars have helped pay his salary and benefits for the past 40 years, what a waste.

    1. Mr. Biden stated last night, and has made the comment previously, “If the Republicans would just get out of the way”……pretty clear that instead of working for bi-partisan relationships in the House & Senate this guy cares only about agendas…..The President claimed that he would cross-the-aisle and mend barriers to progress politically, which he (President Obama) has not done…..Mitt Romney worked with both political parties very successfully while Gov. in Mass. which Mr. Ryan spoke of this last night….Joe Biden spoke very little about his President last night while Mr. Ryan continuously spoke of Mr. Romney and a Romney/Ryan administration….. Joe Biden is a clear example of why Sen. Snowe is leaving Washington….we need to rid Washington of the Joe Bidens and allow more bi-Partisan leaning people the opportunity to work together in Washington….A Romney / Ryan administration is the start of a hope and change America so desperately needs….

      1. LOL Joe Biden is the one causing the gridlock in the Senate? He’s the one using the filibuster on everything, even non-controversial items?

      2. If the Republicans would just get out of the way” ironically when it is a republican in office and things gridlock the statement is reversed.

  32. I felt Ryan was a very cool performer against the ole’ war horse; and genuinely admired Romney. Most impressive.

  33. I was going to vote for Romney anyway.  But seeing how rude and arrogant Biden was I’m sure they lost alot of independent votes.  Thanks Joe.  It would have been nice to actually hear Ryan’s comments.  But with all of the butting in and laughing(i think he was drunk) is was too difficult.  Biden came off as a bully and someone who needs to retire in January.

  34. IF Obama/Biden win I can’t wait to see the look on Mitch McConnell face.  Him and his republican party has attempted to obstruct most everything President Obama has tried to accomplish.  This country would be far better off if the republicans had not obstructed.  Republicans…”get out of the way.”

    Obama/Biden 2012
    Clinton/?  2016

  35. I had to laugh when Joe laughed.  Especially funny when Joe brings up Romney’s SNAFU about Us 47 % who never got dirt under our fingernails and prefer to live off the rich.

Ryan told Joe “we all say strange things…” or, words to the effect that Mitt and he both really love us 47% – the video camera just happened to catch Mitt off guard.   Now that’s laughable.  Another good script idea for SNL  Forget it – both love us 100%.

Who can’t help but laugh after two years of non-stop gaffes and flip-flops  by Mitt, and now Ryan, who’s been told to cool it on abortion and his hatchet attacks on Medicare for us old duffers, as well as the SS – our survival jacket?

Now they have a new plan.

It’s something like a coupon you cut from the newspaper.  Ryan calls it a voucher.  Forget your Medicare or Medicaid, you’ll get a voucher and shop for your own medical coverage – even  driving your wheelchair at 96.

Mitt and Ryan are strong on foreign policy and diplomacy.  Mitt believes he straightened out the Brits on running the Olympics.  Ryan believes that the president was at fault for an unprovoked guerrilla attack on the American ambassador.

Even funnier is to see a gray haired lady outside debate hall calling the president a “commie,” and unable to explain  what the word meant.

After four years and billions of dollars spent shooting down a man, surely we’ll get something out of it than a few laughs.

    1. What amazes me is that Romney/Ryan says there will still be the traditional medicare available for those who want it.  What they fail to tell you is, over time, it’s going to cost people money out of pocket to maintain the basic medicare we now enjoy for “free.”  Think about that you younger than 55 year old folks.  If Romney/Ryan win…you lose.

      1. Hey TrainguyJim……newsflash. IT AIN’T FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is exactly that mindset that is the problem. If someone else is paying it has to be free right? Too many people in this country have latched onto FREE leaving not enough money to pay for those who truly can’t. The only thing Obama wants to do is add more taxes giving the government more of MY money to spend to buy votes and give away Obama phones. No program is safe to cut EVER! Ever hear of baseline budgeting? When someone even proposes to cut the rate of GROWTH it is portrayed as throwing granny off the cliff in her wheelchair.  We cannot sustain the level of spending for all of these programs. Neither Republicans nor Democrats are willing to make the hard choices because they are afraid of losing your vote. Sad. Obama had his chance. Time for him to move on and give someone else a chance.

        1. Duh Harry….you did see when I typed the word free as “free?”  Why do you suppose I did that???  Sheesh…take a valium.

  36. Why is Fried’s lib-opinion piece headlining the online BDN over the “objective” journalism above???

    ???

    ???

    1. It’s a vast liberal media conspiracy working against Republicans. Just like how they selected that radical leftist of a woman to moderate the debate! They’re even rigging all the polls ~~ bewareeeeeee!!!

    2. Amy’s is one of the five (or more) lefty blogs that the BDN carries.

And just think; she is a University of Maine Professor teaching a new batch of little lefties that will soon be spewing the same kind of biased, opinionated claptrap – and worse we are paying her salary while she is doing it!

  37. If ever I had any doubts about voting for Romney/Ryan, last night’s performance from Biden cancelled that out!!!!

I’ve been watching VP/Presidental debates since Kennedy/Nixon and I can truthly say I have never seen anything so bizzare as last night.  Biden behaved so badly and disrespectful towards his ‘friend’ that I am truly amazed that Ryan didn’t come unglued and deck him!!!  That tells alot about his character.

To think that Biden is next in line to be our President; OMG!!!  This guy acts like he’s two fries shot of a happy meal.
