MILLINOCKET – Janice M. Corrigan, 60, died suddenly Oct. 5, 2012, at her home after a battle with cancer. She was born June 18, 1952, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Robert J. and Mary M. (Conley) Miller.
Jan graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy, Buffalo, N.Y., class of 1970. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in management from State University of New York, Binghamton, N.Y., in 1974 and a master’s degree in mid level education from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1993. Janice worked as a commercial insurance underwriter for 14 years before becoming an elementary school teacher. She was employed as a fourth grade teacher at Granite Street School, Millinocket. Jan was a faithful and loving caregiver for her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Gerry Corrigan. Jan enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Millinocket Lake where she loved to kayak and yodel with the loons. She was an avid cross-country skier and participated in marathon ski races as far afield as Wisconsin and Labrador, Canada. Even during her illness she snowshoed every day in the woods behind her house. In addition to reading, cooking and gardening, Jan enjoyed traveling. Every year she got together with her brothers, sister, nieces and nephews in Napa, Calif., for fine wine and family camaraderie. Jan had many wonderful adventures with husband Paul, his dad and friends, fishing and hunting in the Maine woods and the mountains of Colorado and Oregon.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Paul Corrigan Jr. of Millinocket; two brothers, James Miller and wife, Barbie, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Gregory Miller and wife, Cathy, of Buffalo, N.Y.; one sister, Barbara Stone and husband, Warren, of Napa, Calif.; her dear cousin, Colleen Corbett and husband, Christopher, of Albany, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Millinocket.
