BREWER – Merlin Williams Sr. died Sept. 30, 2012, after a short illness. He was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Brewer.

He worked most of his life for Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer, and built his home there with his wife, Florence; and two children, Merlin Jr. and Lisa. Merlin, known affectionately as Moe, will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He built both his camps, one on the ocean and one on a lake, and lovingly took care of them. He could be found at one of his camps puttering around even after summers had long past. This year he enjoyed his camp on the lake right up to Labor Day. He took pride in single-handedly clearing an area to create a blueberry field. In his younger years he loved hunting and fishing as well. Most of all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grampy.

Moe was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Florence. He is survived by his son, Merlin and wife, Carolyn, of Southwest Harbor; and daughter, Lisa Black of Veazie and children, Erik and wife, Nicole, of Veazie, and Katie and fiance, Gimbala Sankare, of New York City. He is also survived by two brothers, Reginald and Gerry, and their families. His family wishes to thank Westgate Manor for their compassionate care.

There will be no services per his wishes. www.brookingssmith.com
