NORWAY, Maine — Nearly 30 firefighters from four towns scrambled for two hours Tuesday night to free an injured woman trapped in her crushed car on Eddie Kahkonen Road.
“She was pinned pretty bad,” Capt. Tim Yates of the Norway Fire Department said. “It was definitely a long process to get her out of there. They did everything they could to free her, but the car was just so wrapped around the tree.”
No details on the woman’s name or condition were available Tuesday night about the 5:17 p.m. crash, which is being investigated by the Norway Police Department.
Yates said it appeared the woman’s car went off the road, down an embankment and wrapped around a tree on the driver’s side. He said firefighters extricated the woman from the car using mechanical means, but the process took nearly two hours in an effort not to injure her any further.
Firefighters from Norway, Poland, Paris and Oxford all responded to the scene and Bridgton provide station coverage.
The crash was being reconstructed and remained under investigation as of late Tuesday night.
