NORFOLK, Va. — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Saturday he has chosen Rep. Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate, a move that will bring the debate over how to reduce government spending and debt to the forefront of the race for the White House.
Romney, the presumptive Republican nominee, announced that he has tapped the House of Representatives Budget Committee chairman at an event at the retired battleship USS Wisconsin — coincidentally named for Ryan’s home state.
“His leadership begins with character and values. … Paul Ryan works in Washington but his roots remain in Janesville, Wisconsin,” Romney said before introducing Ryan.
Romney said Ryan, 42, “has become an intellectual leader of the Republican Party,” and stressed that their campaign will focus on ways to create jobs, protect Medicare and Social Security, and repeal the health care law enacted under Democratic President Barack Obama.
Romney’s campaign alerted supporters at 7 a.m. via an iPhone app that the seven-term congressman would be the Republican vice presidential nominee. Minutes later, the campaign sent out a release calling Romney and Ryan “America’s comeback team.”
The selection of Ryan adds to the ticket the intellectual architect of the GOP’s approach to slashing deficits and signal a desire to place the nation’s looming fiscal challenges at the center of the campaign’s final months.
Ryan was one of several Republicans thought to be on Romney’s short list of contenders for the slot. Some of the others included Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio and former governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota. Ryan got a strong boost over the past few days from conservatives, with editorials pushing his candidacy in the Wall Street Journal, the Weekly Standard and the National Review.
Romney’s announcement will come at the start of a four-day bus trip through Virginia, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio, and at a time when the former Massachusetts governor has fallen behind President Obama in the polls.
With some conservatives fretting publicly that he has lost the summer, Romney is under pressure to alter the course of his campaign. He will have several chances to do so over the next three weeks. At the end of the month, Republicans will gather in Tampa for a four-day convention that will provide the former Massachusetts governor a chance to reintroduce himself to the country and reset the race on his terms.
Romney’s effort gets under way in Virginia, where he begins a four-day bus tour through swing states on Saturday with his wife, Ann.
With the announcement by Romney of Ryan as his running mate, he has offered voters the starkest possible choice on how to address issues of spending and taxing, embracing Ryan’s single-minded focus on reducing the nation’s debt without raising taxes by dramatically altering Americans’ relationship to their government.
It is a fight Democrats, too, have savored, believing the details of Ryan’s budget will convince voters that they offer a fairer path to reduced deficits through a combination of spending cuts and higher taxes on the wealthy.
Ryan would likely energize a GOP base that sought a campaign of forward-looking ideas and not just an endless critique of President Obama.
Romney’s bus tour is aimed at showing the candidate connecting with blue-collar America. It is designed to help Romney shed the caricature that the Obama campaign has tried to draw of him as an elitist who looks out only for the wealthiest. In addition to touring the USS Wisconsin, Romney plans to swing by a bakery in Ashland, Va., on Saturday. He will stage a rally Sunday at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C., near Charlotte.
Aboard his campaign plane Friday evening, Romney told reporters: “Bus tour, it’s great! It’s great to be out campaigning. … Campaigning is the most fun, is the most enjoyable and rewarding.” Romney then clapped his hands and returned to his seat at the front of the plane. “Back to my yogurt,” he said.
Romney’s focus on the middle class will carry into the convention at the end of this month. The national spotlight will shine brighter in Tampa than at any other moment in Romney’s campaign, and his supporters are betting that many voters will form their impressions of him then.
“To borrow a phrase, the convention has the potential to be an ‘Etch a Sketch moment,’ ” said Mark McKinnon, a longtime Republican image-maker who advised the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain. “Conventions often wipe the slate clean. A crucial bloc of undecided voters, though there aren’t many this year, will just start paying attention when the convention starts.”
Romney’s advisers are putting the finishing touches on plans to reintroduce the candidate to the nation. They have filmed new videos with Romney and his family at his lakefront vacation home in Wolfeboro, N.H., and are devising a prominent role onstage for Ann Romney and their extended family.
“Americans are going to get a real close look at Governor Romney, his wife, Ann, and the entire family,” senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom told reporters here Friday. “I think that they’re going to be impressed by the fact that this is a family that shares their values. He shares their values of hard work, of patriotism, of sacrificing so that the next generation has it better than the current one.”
For Romney, a big moment couldn’t come soon enough. Weeks of pummeling by Democratic ads depicting Romney as an out-of-touch plutocrat and possible tax evader appear to have taken a toll.
Three national polls released over the past two days show Obama widening his lead over Romney to as much as nine points. The surveys of registered voters, all conducted between Aug. 2 and Aug. 8, also show Romney’s unfavorable ratings rising. Two of the polls show his support among independents slipping.
A Fox News poll found the largest deficit, with Romney trailing by nine points — 49 percent to 40 percent — the widest gap Fox has reported all year.
A senior Romney adviser played down the new polls at a news briefing Friday morning at Boston headquarters, saying that they must be midsummer flukes because there had been no “precipitating event” to move the numbers so much.
The adviser pointed to the latest Gallup tracking polls, which have the two candidates in a dead heat, as well as to Rasmussen, an automated poll that usually leans Republican and shows Romney ahead of Obama.

Great! When does the “Two Creepy Guys” tour begin?
January.
Having a bad day? Get used to it!
we on the left are having a good day, Ryan is the best choice Mitt, could of made for our side.
obama/Biteme never stopped touring! What you talking about?
Did you know that LePage just attacked Romney, but threatening to boycott the RNC if Maine’s Ron Paul delegates aren’t seated?
I thought you guys on the Left hated LePage and never cared about what he did or didn’t do?
Governor LePage isn’t disliked by those on the Left solely because he’s on the Right side of the fence— it’s because he doesn’t think before he speaks a lot of the time. It doesn’t matter whether you consider yourself to be Left-Wing or Right-Wing; vote whichever wing you want in but the flight plan doesn’t change. Mitt Romney is still Obama’s clone, and adding Paul Ryan to the mix doesn’t change anything because it will still be more of the same under Romney as we’ve had under President Obama if there is a changing of the Guard.
LePage is in over his head.
8:45am
LOL
Herman and Eddie Munster!
BINGO!
Halloween 14 (or whatever)?
Munsters on parade?
Paul Ryan will tear the opposition apart in the debates. This is a good thing. Paul Ryan is eloquent and intelligent and does not require use of a teleprompter to form thoughts or a vision for America. He is a brilliant fiscal conservative who will make the liberals pee themselves in any real conservation about bringing a budget and fiscal sanity to Washington DC. Landslide in November. Too many people remember the empty rhetoric of “Hope and Change” that Obama spewed 3 1/2 years ago when unemployment was much lower. Unemployment is at 8.3% with real unemployment much higher when you consider those have given up, the 85k a month who go on disability, and the part time workers who don’t get counted in the job numbers. Gas prices are going back up. The housing market is teetering on another crisis. But who cares about details in Washington – only a few people – and not the beautiful people in the White House who think this is a four year vacation on the taxpayer’s dime. Plenty of people will vote for Obama – because it’s the good union thing to do – or because of the environment – or because of his far left wing ideology. But that’s doesn’t matter – because the majority of Americans are angry with the incompetence of government and the fiscal waste.
The majority of Americans aren’t stupid enough to forget that Romney put Obamacare into play in Massachusetts, that he is totally out of touch with the working class, and that he absolutely refuses to release his tax returns. Though what data we do have shows he paid 13.9% on his income one year:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/a-tough-new-obama-ad-that—-surprise—-is-accurate/2012/08/02/gJQAuigQSX_blog.html
Even a Fox News poll shows Romney falling farther and farther back, despite his big lead in secret-source PAC money.
But that’s all right, according to him he is having fun and enjoying his yogurt.
What’s wrong with yogurt? I like yogurt.
But do you love yogurt? Do you rub your hands together and start to salivate at the prospect of tasting that first morsel? (Does yogurt come in morsels or should dab be better?) While you are doing something difficult, like work, do you think, “I can’t wait to get done so that I can have me a cup of yogurt!”?
At the end of the day, I personally think that these issues will be irrelevant. When people come out to vote in November, the basic question they are going to ask themselves is, “Can I afford another 4 years under Obama?” All of these personality issues are fun to play around with, but the stakes are too high for this country, and the philosophical differences between the 2 leading candidates has never been clearer than it is this time, for voters to worry about Romney’s apparent affinity for yogurt!
Problem is, most on the Left are too dumb to know how bad off they really are, or they depend on Government handouts for their survival. They will never vote to stop the government teat.
You’ve been eavesdropping on the adults again and listening to all that exaggerated talk the grown ups tend to engage in.
All you’re doing is repeating conservative talking points. The sky is not falling and those on the left do realize how bad things are and how much worse those on the right want to make life for the poor with all their austerity measures.
Yawn!
Spoken like a true 15 yr old.
Maybe, but I can spell ‘year’!
Very good, it’s such a hard word to spell. Always be proud of your accomplishments no matter how small, but no gold star for you.
Check this!

The U.S. health system spends a higher portion of
its gross domestic product than any other country but ranks 37 out of 191
countries according to its performance, the report finds.
Off topic.
Don’t waste your time spruce. I had an ex gf named Abby. Apparently all Abby’s are the same argumentative, self centered brats.
Sweet dreams, about all you’ve got.
In Maine, it is safe to say that there are as many conservatives getting benefits as liberals. Day in and day out conservatives in here complain about the college degrees that liberal minded people have which seems more like jealousy. Liberals in this state tend to be better educated and have careers. In my town which votes conservative every election and has seven churches in a two mile radius. It is the conservatives who are getting assistance while the liberals have college degrees and careers.
Isn’t THAT the truth.Ask anyone from The County what the welfare benefits % is there yet they all vote like TP fools while they’re getting every dime known to man!
Much like the “red” states….the best example is Mississippi. Probably the reddest state in the nation, and they have the highest welfare rate.
Not to mention being last in nearly every health statistic. All you have to do is look at that fat pig Haley Barbour and there’s your answer-oh wait-just thought of Jowls LePage.
Biggest taker from the feds?Alaska-nice job Half Baked Sarah.
Of course the “yogurt” issue is irrelevant. It’s just an example of Mitt Romney’s tin ear. He doesn’t follow NASCAR, but he knows NASCAR owners. He didn’t know when his wife’s horse was competing in the Olympics. If he didn’t, I bet Mitt got one of those you-aren’t-listening reminders. But he knew. He just didn’t want to say so.
One thing that is relevant is economic issues. We have had the Bush tax rates in place for a decade, and here we sit with 8 plus percent unemployment. So the Republicans pretend that if the tax rates continue or, worse, if tax cuts are given to the wealthy, the economy will improve because investors will have more money to invest creating more on the supply side. The problem is not supply, it’s demand. (Think about the lobster industry. We have more lobsters than the market can absorb right now. If the demand was there, the price would be up.)
Republican economics don’t do anything for demand. Republicans have shown themselves to be very poor at managing the nation’s economy. That is what is relevant.
We have the highest corporate tax rate in the world, we have Obamacare hanging over our heads, we have a president who demonizes the achievers and lionizes the deceivers, punishes the makers, and rewards the takers.
Romney by 10 points.
We have big corporations that pay zero in taxes, while the rich get rich and the rest of us sink:
http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/ad-lib/2011/apr/10/tax-evaders-wall-shame/
That’s right and when the rich get out of paying taxes , who picks up the slack? Congress doesn’t help because they just pass legislation that protects their wealth. I guarantee some of them made out like bandits after the debt ceiling debacle dumping stocks before the market bottomed out for the rest of us. I believe in the real world it’s referred to as insider trading.
“Evil” corporations provide jobs. Jobs bring income to families. Income helps us each prosper. This doesn’t apply if you are on welfare though.
No, the corporations take jobs away. It’s called “consolidation.” It’s called “outsourcing.” From Romney’s perspective, it’s called being a “corporate raider.”
Okay, now I know you aren’t serious! “Corporations take jobs away”? Really?
Tell that to all the people corporations employ! I’m sure they will find that very enlightening! No wonder your side is losing support!
For example. closing a factory in America and moving it to Mexico or China.
many people wouldn’t be on welfare if these companies were actually creating jobs – instead, they ship them over seas to slave wage employees.
Speak for yourself. I am sorry to hear that you are doing so poorly.
and in February, Obama proposed a corporate tax reform that would drop the current rate (which I think is about 39%) to 28%. Most US companies don’t even pay the highest rate due to the tax breaks and loopholes. Some even pay below Obama’s proposal like Verizon that payed 2.7% and we’ve all heard how much GE payed.
Of course Romney is not tuned into the minutia of current trends or fashions–he is a strategic thinker, which is what makes a good President. Clinton was given great credit for being a man in touch with all of the little things, but once his health care initiative failed he went tactical and never tried to do anything big. Clinton was actually fortunate that the Republicans took over Congress, because their deficit containment initiatives helped create a strong economy that Clinton could take partial credit for. I remember Clinton saying, “I’m still relevant,” once he realized that the Gingrich crowd stole the show.
The Bush tax cuts did what they were intended to do, by creating a strong incentive-driven foundation from which a strong economy could develop. Unfortunately, people forget that 9-11 happened, which resulted in a shift from domestic issues to foreign ones, and a huge perceived need to spend tremendous amounts of money on security issues. Bush & Cheney’s decision to go into Iraq used up what little political capital they earned from the 2004 election, and when combined with the increase in spending on security, as well as the housing bubble caused by the unsustainable mortgage lending practices instituted to enable people who couldn’t afford a house to buy one, created the economic meltdown at the end of the Bush Administration.
You can argue that Republicans don’t manage the economy well, and I could counter that Obama has done nothing to improve it either, but much of what Bush did at the end of his 2nd term was by no means conservative. Expanding Medicare benefits and bailing out banks were not conservative approaches to improving the economy, so Bush wasn’t acting like a Republican in those last few years that he was in office. One of the major reasons why the economy isn’t making strides is because private investors are still keeping their money on the sidelines, given the uncertainty of Obama’s economic policies. Obama can say whatever he wants to on the matter, but many investors will react more favorably to the idea of investing their capital if a true, pro-business Administration were to take power, such as the Romney/Ryan Administration, and to some extent the Clinton Administration after they moved to the right.
Could we survive 4 days of Romney/Ryan? Doubtful.
Women certainly couldn’t.Ryan in particular despises them.
It’s the brain food of the Left!
How pathetically desperate is the Left if they have to pick on someone eating yogurt?!?!
You misinterpreted what I said and twisted it into a way to stir up hatred for the “Left.” I urge you to step away from hate. It is a cruel master.
I’m exploring my Liberal side!
Check it out. This Wall Street billionaire cheated the American people out of their hard-earned money:
http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/a-stunning-fall-from-grace-for-a-star-executive/
Shouldn’t we regulate and police the big bankers?
What does that have to do with a VP pick?
You daily twist what is written into hatred for those who achieve. I urge you to step away from envy; it is an obsessive master
If so, Romney must not be “right” :)
Yes because polls have always been so accurate in American politics. Give me a break – if you seriously follow polls you live in Narnia
And what do you require to to form a thought? Seems like you need to be fed lazy and baseless talking points. You’re really gonna start off with a comment about teleprompters?
There are more people who should use them. Besides, in this political hurricane climate, woe to anyone who makes even on public misstep.
Teleprompters form thoughts and visions? Who knew?
How so?
If you have your speech on note cards or paper do they do the same thing?
Guess I touched a touchy subject for your socialist messiah and all the mindless minions who voted for the One in 2008
Thats your response to what I posted?
Do you have an attention deficit disorder?
Go away.
Or writing on your hand a la Palin?
Paul Ryan Plan!
He collected on his fathers Social Security Benefit while in college ,only to say now that we need to overhaul the system!
AKA —–I got Mine–Screw you!
Romney couldn’t have created a better likness from a test tube!
You can add to that his own taxpayer supported healthcare plan and he fights against the taxpayers having it. It all has to do with who is greasing their palms.
Well said, Jon!
“Campaigning is the most fun, is the most enjoyable and rewarding.”
Romney then clapped his hands and returned to his seat at the front of
the plane. ‘Back to my yogurt,’ he said.”
————
I’m so glad Romney is maximizing his fun. I think “Back to my yogurt” should be his campaign motto.
OK thanks, that was just wonderful!
At least Romney didn’t make fun of the Special Olympics, like Obama did 4 years ago! Why was there no outrage about that comment?
Seriously, his core support is red-meat loving white males, the kind of macho that is not at all a fan of yogurt. And what does Romney do to thrill this crucial demographic of his?
“Back to my yogurt.”
Totally out of touch.
Perhaps, but at least his core demographic knows that he’s an unapologetic capitalist, unlike his opponent.
So now you have a thing against yogurt too? Or are you trying to sputter that yogurt belongs to the social elite croissant and brie crowd of the Left?
Look who is demonizing success now ;)
When do you go back to school?
Really? That’s the best you could come up with? No wonder you’re the party of failure, immaturity and inexperience!
All you do is repeat the lies you have heard.
Just like EVERYONE on the Left does, ad nauseum!
Now that you mention it, white males do seem to like him, and let’s be honest, no other demographic has done more to advance this country, so this makes perfect sense that such achievers would support Romney/Ryan.
But they could not have done it without all the other “non-white males” and poor white males who did most of the real work.
You realize your talking about steak and yogurt? WOW!
You think maybe this was something like Romney introducing Paul Ryan as the next President of the United States, a mistake.
Both apologized for the error.
Much different situations. In Romney’s case, he omits a word. In Obama’s case, he let his true feelings out when he didn’t have his teleprompter in front of him.
You really are stretching for Mittens, he likes to fire people, corporations are people my friend, I’m not concerned about the poor, I’ll take credit for the auto industries come back, this president spent to much time at Harvard, Mitt has two degrees at Harvard, I think he spent to much time at Harvard, and on and on it goes with this excuse for a presidential candidate. He has a teleprompter some of the time I suggest he carry one with him full time and never deviate from what it says on there.
At least Mitt is not a cigarette-smoking, commie-loving Chicago goon like your man Obama! lol
I’ll take a preppie Harvard grad who has a good business sense over a know-nothing community organizer who couldn’t tell a debit from a credit any day!
Snore.zzzzzzzz
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
I guess you have a lot of hate built up, you really should try to get off whatever your taking. I do not understand where the hate comes from, if you keep this up it will eat you up when Obama wins in Nov., really seek help you sure need it.
You’re wrong once again! It’s your side that has all of the hate! You hate anyone who has worked hard and taken risks with their capital to build something for themselves! You want to take from those who have earned, and give to those who have not earned! Your approach and the approach of those you support is an absolute violation and abomination against all that which was once good in this country! And the more people there are like you in this country, the weaker this country will become! If Obama wins reelection in November, it is not because his ideas are right, but it will be a sign that this country has unfortunately lost its way! And that would be a very sad day!
Well the Republicans don’t have an economic policy, they don’t have a policy for health care, Blame Capital as Flip Flopney’s economic experience is weak at best, so now comes a repeat of the same failed policies of the flailing republicans…featuring Flip Flopney and Obstuctionist Puke Ryan:
25% tax cuts for large income earners and corporations, deficit spending, subsidies, corporate welfare for oil companies, deficit spending, tax increases for the middle class, deficit spending, war with Iran, deficit spending,…..do we need the known failed economic policies of the republican party??
The Republicans may as well go back to the Birther Issues, they don’t have much else to stand on.
Still waiting for the political adds stating why anyone should vote FOR obama! Haven’t seen one yet. Does he plan to run any, or only adds begging voters to NOT vote for the other guy.
We all want to see the obama add that says – ‘Vote for me, even though I’ve been a 4 year failure!’
Here’s one reason to vote for Obama: Romney’s tax plan makes the rich richer and adds more taxes to the rest of us:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/study-romney-tax-plan-would-result-in-cuts-for-rich-higher-burden-for-others/2012/08/01/gJQAbeCCOX_story.html
Here is another reason: Romney only paid a 13.9% tax recently, and he refuses to release his other tax returns. He has bank accounts in the Cayman Islands and Switzerland to hide his 200 million dollars. So much for giving back to the country that made him wealthy:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/a-tough-new-obama-ad-that—-surprise—-is-accurate/2012/08/02/gJQAuigQSX_blog.html
Or you can vote for total obama disaster and failure!
Still waiting for obama’s college transcripts!
You’re not gonna see his transcripts, thesis paper, college and financial aid applications, or any of the other sealed documents because they would very likely out him as either a foreign student applicant or a liar when it comes to his natural place of birth.
Exactly! But none of that matters to the brain-dead puppets on the left. They would vote for anyone promising free handouts or with a deep-seated hatred of America.
No wonder they still support obama, he isn’t through destroying the country yet.
They could just admit they made a mistake, but as we all know, liberals can NEVER take responsibility for ANY mistake they made. Blame others and continue supporting failure is all they know how to do.
“brain-dead puppets on the left” — all you’re doing is spreading hate. I think it works against you and makes Republicans look bad. Can’t you defend your position?
Did you know the middle class is shrinking away:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/16/us/middle-class-areas-shrink-as-income-gap-grows-report-finds.html
The middle class is shrinking. Many are falling into poverty. And you still support the one that is sending them into poverty? It’s time for a change, and Romney/Ryan are going to provide that change and get the middle class back.
The elite among us who have twisted our laws to benefit them is what is causing many to fall into poverty. Those who work the hardest in this country, get the least, while the fat cats of this country like Romney keep using tax loop holes to amass their fortune without having to pay income taxes. It is corporate America that is destroying this country where people can’t even make a working wage.
There are a couple of big reasons that the middle class is shrinking, and neither has much to do with the current administration. First, real incomes have fallen since the 1980s. This results mainly from policies that favor spending based on borrowing and money creation, which are primarily products of Republican administrations and the Fed under Alan Greenspan (although Bernanke, for his part, hasn’t been much different). At the same time, large tax-cuts focused on the wealthy (as part of “trickle-down” theory) have meant that while there is more money in the economy, most of it flows upward (or out of the country), leaving the majority of Americans poorer than before. Second, the industrial and manufacturing sectors which once supported the large middle-class have been decimated. The reasons for this are much more varied than the reasons for excessive inflation. Both Republicans and Democrats have had a hand in creating this manufacturing exodus, although non-political factors like increasing mechanization and the industrialization of the “third-world” have probably played more significant roles in this trend.
debt based fiat currency is a cancer that has all but consumed this nation. The price of goods haven’t gone up the value of money has spiraled down.
The economic policy of spending borrowed money is nothing new. It started with FDR the greatest progressive liberal of our time. That was on welfare. Then Regan in the 80’s who spent it on warfare.
We cannot sustain over 700 military installations all over the world and a massive entitlement (unfunded) program on the federal reserve platinum card.
Excessive money creation is a cancer, but I’m not sure I would extend it to fiat currency in general. If control of inflation is the goal, then an alternatives like benchmarking to precious metals (gold standard) would likely prove worse than fiat money because while their values tend to remain somewhat constant over the long-term, they tend to swing wildly in the short-run (and this is more true in modern times than in times where the gold standard was ubiquitous). One of the potential benefits of fiat currency is that it can be used to explicitly control inflation. It requires, however, the political will to do so, and the prevailing political will over the last 30 or so years in particular has been much the opposite. I would support something more along the lines of the Taylor rule to limit the ability of the Fed and of the government to use monetary policy to generate “politically motivated inflation”, if you will.
As far as neo-imperialism (with regard to military installations), I would support the closure of many installations, but would not go so far as to take the completely isolationist attitude shared by neo-libertarians like Ron Paul (and to some extent the Tea Party). Whether we like it or not, we live in an interconnected world and we do have at least some interest in wielding global influence (though certainly not in any imperialistic type of way).
With regard to entitlement, there obviously has to be some plan to wind Social Security down in the somewhat near future, because I don’t think the program is salvageable over the long-term, quite honestly. However, I’m not so sure about the means of doing so.
Maybe having the Federal Government pay back what it owes would be a good starting point. That wasn’t free money. It came out of the wages of hard working Americans and should be used for that purpose only. Turning it over to the bankers would be a disaster too. Look what they did to the 401 Ks.
Even the jobs that went to MX in the 80’s have left there to go to even cheaper places.
Bullseye!
This is the heart of the issue and the philosophical divide between parties right now. The GOP, being conservative, favors a return to Reagan-era trickle-down economic policies but economic stagnation originating in the Mortgage-and-loan crisis / housing market crash persists because
working Americans are for the most part, completely cash-strapped. Relief of the the immediate circumstance calls for mass-spending (“W” telling us to all go shopping and later, Obama supporting additional unemployment benefits) to keep money flowing and stave off a complete halt to the commercial system.
The long-term problem is a more difficult one. One good approach to the jobs glut has been to begin developing the “Green Economy” which has suffered greatly from partisan politics probably originating in lobbies, special interest groups and plain old fear-of-the-new. Rest assured, its not IF the Green economy will come that is at issue, it’s WHO will make the most money from such an initiative and who will take credit for its success.
Developing an economy based in environmental sustainability demands a new outlook, new research initiatives, new technology and new machinery. In the long run, it could help to give the U.S. a new economic base and a measure of prosperity. Its not the only answer, but it’s a good one and one that will continue to persist, even if we have more urgent things to talk about currently. And lets face it, it’s better than waiting for a bunch of billionaires to build new refineries and shopping strips so we can all have minimum-wage service jobs (the REAL result of trickle-down).
its sad you and many other people are still buying into this paradigm. There will be no different results between obama or romney.
Put ’em out back, or, wipe ’em out.
Maybe you would like to explain how Obama is sending the middle class into poverty. Was he made dictator? Did he hold Congress hostage and demand a reasonable vote out of them? Explain
The brainwashing is obviously working on you. The only thing that Romney/Ryan will do for the middle class, is cause them to become extinct. They will continue to give HUGE tax breaks to the rich, companies will pay fewer taxes percentage wise than any middle class family, and the cost of living will continue to swallow up what is remaining of the middle class. It wont be long before anyone making less than 3 mill a year will be waiting in line for scraps given to them by that wonderful one percent that looks down on the rest of the world as ignorant. They campaign about equality and bringing the American Dream back, yet many Americans arent even allowed to marry one another. If these two are elected i can see the wheels of Capitalism spinning all of the best jobs OUT of the country…as if most arent already there.
Did you Miss the Bush total Meltdown of the Economy? 50,000 Manufacturing plants moving overseas and the rich hideing all their loot in overseas accounts while all this happened?
You shouldn’t have gone out to get popcorn during the show, you missed the whole plot!
Ryan:
Supports a return to Reagan-omics (even through the cold war is over)
Supports tax breaks for the wealthy
Supports cutting Medicaid
Voted to make birth-control illegal
Ryan’s “plan” isn’t expected to bring balance to the federal budget until 2040
(don’t even get me started on Ohio voting law)
GOP version of the American Dream in summary: the rich get richer, the privledged have it easier, women have no rights, working people can’t get to the polls to vote and don’t have access to medical care unless they can pay for it out of pocket (ditto for education), American borders are closed except for anyone who can afford to donate millions to the GOP in which case, anonymity is definitely an option.
More trickle-down economic policies that make the 1% wealthier and seek to fund economic growth by taking it out of the pockets of working (and retired) Americans is not going to make life better for the middle-class (or what’s left of it) anytime soon, if at all.
It will definitely make the rich richer and then, if they feel like it, they might invest in their businesses and then, if they are successful at it, some of that prosperity might allow for some hiring after the management get across-the-board raises, bonuses, and golden-parachute deals.
Assuming all of that job creation isn’t outsourced so that the dark-money contributors can make one more big score in order to build a bigger Mansion or sail a bigger yacht than their neighbors.
Might sound like a rant but actually, this is a fact-based argument.
Been there, seen that. Time for something new.
It’s my job to spread hate and discontent, I’m not running for anything.
Yes, I know that under obama’s failed policies, the middle class is shrinking. That’s why I’m excited to see America moving in a new direction.
I know this will probably shock you, but I wasn’t a great fan of Bush. Yes, he was the only choice faced with Gore or Kerry, but he did some things this conservative didn’t like.
Now, is Romney my first choice? No, but picking Ryan sure sweetens the pot! I want to see a strong vibrant America. An America where success is rewarded, work for welfare is the norm, EVERYONE (yes, even the poor) pays their fare share, everyone has an equal chance and government serves the people, not this distorted obama doctrine of ‘people serve the government’.
Obama was a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, but it takes real fortitude to admit them and move on. It’s time we as a country move on. Once we are again strong financially, they the Democrats can go back to destroying the economy.
You folks who throw around the term “failed policies” crack me up- all it shows is that you have to rely on Fox News sound bites to spew out.
The true failures are the majority of congressional Republicans who have refused to work with moderate Republicans, Democrats, and the administration to pass legislation that will move the country forward. Responsible representatives will work to compromise.
I reckon most can’t name one of these actual ‘failed policies’ , why it failed, and how Romney would do it better.
So Fox News is now making words up? And here I thought words like ‘failed’ and ‘policies’ had been around a while, certainly long before Fox!
You liberals never fail to enlighten!

Actually Fox News does lie, and shape the minds of its followers.
Actually, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and many other news organizations do lie, and shape the minds of their followers.
I gave a reference. What’s yours?
Here’s Newt Gingrich calling Fox News biased:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/12/newt-gingrich-fox-news-bias-cnn-romney_n_1420274.html
The Huffington Post?!! You’re citing the Huffington Post as proof that Fox News is biased? I am unabashedly ROTFLMFAO.
No, my source is Newt Gingrich.
Here’s the quote, and it’s actually from Real Clear Politics who was granted access to the meeting:
““I think FOX has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting — to which RealClearPolitics was granted access — at Wesley College. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than FOX this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of FOX, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of FOX. That’s just a fact.”
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/04/12/gingrich_unloads_on_fox_news_in_private_meeting___113818.html
Great link, thanks!
Asinus asinum fricat.
lol, well, you get points for creativity, but your head is still in the sand about Fox.
Fox couldn’t pass the “No Lie Law ” in Canadian Broadcasting!
If we had that here they would be out of Buisness all together!
I’m pretty sure that NBC could not pass the “No Lie Law” either.
Fox News is infamous for altering the truth.
no differrent than MSNBC NBC or CBS
Oh yes- a lot different.
Bush took a huge surplus and dumped it into two gigantic wars. The debt in lives and treasure is staggering. Walter Reed is full of hundreds who are still trying to free themselves of the physical torturous mental misery inflicted upon them by Bush and Cheney.
Ryan and Romney are cheapskates.
please remember as you are strifing bush.. the senate majority was democrats.. you don’t get a thing done unless they go along.. you know that.. so quit spinning.. that is unbecoming of an honest mainer
Please remember that the Bush administration was so full of lies that they sent Colin Powell to the U.N. with a pack of lies to make the case for war. After that performance, Powell’s reputation was trashed and the credibility of the Bush/Cheney cabal never recovered.
So you think the Dems were complicit because they were shown cherry-picked intelligence, quotes from a person who was a known liar/arms dealer (google
Khashoggi and Perlman), “secrets” from Ahmad Chalabi. Sort of like if you lie to a kid and he/she gets hurt, it isn’t your fault the kid believed you. Right.
It’s a funny world inhabited by the right. You believe that if somebody believes your carefully created lies, it is their fault, not yours. No accountability, only rhetoric and lies.
They have had a lot of help! The Republican Party at one time had some honor and validity in this country. They knew how to negotiate to everyone’s benefit. They started a downhill spiral with Nixon and it continues today. Now they have been palluted by the Tea Party funded by big business to turn the odds more in their favorat the expense of the working man.
Thank You for saying it like it really is!!! You will get some crap from the obamaphiles, but pay them no mind. No nailed it!
Abbyisntgod is quite “liberal” with the name calling and would-be cute put downs. Deflecting from more relvant issues?
Just curious, is it deflecting to constantly insult and put down anyone that doesn’t walk in jack-booted lockstep with the Far Left Liberal agenda of you posters or the BDN?
That is all Abbyisgod ever spreads.
Yes! and then you have to ask yourself where all that lost middle class money went. Money doesn’t just disappear. It changes hands.
And what has Obama done about that – be specific?
of course that is an excellent question.. but the answer is so simple.. it’s why you don’t get an answer.. well cause it’s a one word answer ” nothing” end of that story
Talk about brain dead.
Funny how when you use ‘brain dead’ it’s fine, but when I use it the post gets flagged!
No double standard at he BDN! No, never!
The difference is that you are calling an entire group of people, tens of millions of people, “brain dead” and spreading hate against all of them. And you are acting in a way that does nothing to advance intelligent discussion.
I urge you to step back from hate.
there again is that Hate word.. what’s the matter with you people.. you don’t really know what hate is.. it’s debate and opinions.. not hate… again here is hate… liberals hate a debate… gays hate debate… gays are liberals .. liberals are gays.. make sense.. now there is an opinion but it is not hate.. or bigotry.. it’s an opinion .. bring it up a notch…. by the way your comment ” you are acting in a way that does nothing to advance intelligent discussion” .. is actually funny as it comes right after you make a bizarre accusation… that Abbyisgod is calling tens of millions of people brain dead… of course that will advance an intellectual conversation but only if you are the only one talking …… jeez… where do you people come from ?
Debate and opinions, but Conservatives mix up opinions and facts. And when the facts don’t fit, their back-up positon is that they have their opinion, it is right, and facts don’t matter. Try to debate that (your) attitude. There can be no debate. I hope the Tea Party gets shellacked this fall. Then they can all go back to their caves and debate why it happened.
don’t feed the trolls (abbyisnotgod)
that’s funny… but they are hungry.. and need fodder to keep them on the side of dishonest discourse… so I get what you are saying … but what the heck .. it’s kind of fun listening to them lie and whine
“liberals can NEVER take responsibility for ANY mistake they made” You’re just making yourself look more ignorant as you continue on spewing hate.
Show me an example of when they have! If you can show me one, just one example of obama admitting a mistake on anything he’s done, I’ll apologize for offending you!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUyrftZi9X8
This is just one of a few times, at least. You can simply google “Obama admits mistake video” and get more.
So, please stop spewing hatred. It makes Republicans look bad. I know Republicans who are actually sick of hate-mongers, and you have fallen into that category.
there’s that hate word again.. it’s not hate.. it’s debate… a lib is against debate for in favor of hate.. the spittle carries far the message is clear.. libs hate debate.. mmmmmm
Liberals don’t hate debate, we hate to debate someone who only has canned answers from Fox with no facts. And then when the facts are presented, they just deny them.
For instance, you all love to say that Obama has brought the country down, but all you point to is an arbitrary number (the debt), and can’t prove he is responsible for the bulk of it. Yet you insist that the US is only a shadow of itself during the Republican/Bush good times. I might add that these good times included the worst performing economy since the 1930s. This is what you want to return to? Get real.
You scream that he is a Socialist, but none of you know what that means.
You say he has done nothing, but than say he has led this country to Socialism.
You say he is Muslim, then whine about his flaky former Christian pastor.
You say he is foreign born, then refuse to believe any documents proving otherwise.
Now I ask, how are we supposed to debate people whose only skill is watching Fox and being able to type English, without a kernel of rationality that would foster understanding?
I didn’t ask you to apologize, nor did you offend me. And quite frankly, arguing with you would be like arguing with a brick wall. Not worth my time.
Is this like when Mitt lied on his tax forms, when running for Gov. of Mass., saying he was a resident of Utah for a tax break on his house, while at the same time claiming he was a Mass. resident so he could run as a Mass. resident? He had to retro actively revamp his tax forms for 2 or 3 years and pay some additional taxes to both states.
Another little piece of info which questions his integrity would be when he was on Marriott’s board as head of the audit committee, and Marriott proceeded with a tax evasion scheme called Son of Boss, Mitt gave his blessing for fictional losses of $70 million dollars which caused the Marriott company to pay dearly in fines, etc.
It makes one wonder if maybe, just maybe there may be some of this Son of Boss scheme is in some of Mitt’s tax returns, that being the reason that he does not want to release some of his tax forms… Just saying, not accusing.
Is this how a trustworthy person operates, if so I really don’t want anything to do with him.
That’s not the half of it. IN 1984 Mitt Romney received 9 million dollars from some El Salvadorian business men who where also funding the death squads that raped and murdered three American Catholic nuns.
You left out the six opt-outs to avoid a trip to Vietnam. How many Mainers had that choice?
So that’s the big deal! Pardon my ignorance, but I’m not tuned into the conservative propaganda pipeline. Last gasp of the birther fiasco? I was wondering why this feeble response to everyone else asking for Romney financial records, especially his tax free offshore investments. Your quest is not even worthy of being termed Quixotic.
Then what is Obama protecting, and why? No one in the history of Presidential politics has had so many documents and records sealed from public view. But, of course, since Obama’s your man, you don’t really care if he claimed foreign status to get through college. And you don’t care if he failed classes, dropped out, or wrote a thesis no Islamic rule. And I’m sure you don’t care who funded his education. But, if Romney or a Republican had all of these documents and records sealed, you’d be in the front line demanding he release them. Just like the lefties screaming for Romney to release his tax records while his primary accuser, Reid, refuses to release his. And Reid’s leading lacky, Pelosi, refuses to release hers.
Sealed?
“All ” Private Records are Sealed!
It’s the LAW!
Only when you “release” them do they become public.
So tell me why the Republicans rejected a standard for the release of such documents when presented?
That is no longer true. Under Obama’s redone Patriot Act the government can look at your financial records and never tell you about it. What is sealed about that?
The Government under the Patriot Act can “look” at your records but “not” make them public!
When the government is looking at my beer bill at the corner store I figure that’s public.
Harvard law students do NOT become Presidents
of the Harvard Law Review by failing classes and “dropping out”. Why would you post such utter nonsense?
Let me buy you a box of straws at the grocery store so you have some more to grasp at.
In any event, EJ, Pres. Obama is way smarter than you on your good day.
Obama certainly appears to be smart to his supporters.
To say that Obama is smarter than his supporters isn’t saying much for his supporters.
Read the post again EJ, slowly this time.
I’ll match IQs with him any day. Oh, I forgot, he’s got that information sealed.
You obviously misunderstood. I’m not talking about Romney, I’m talking about Obama.
Whilst investigating, check into Romney’s birthplace, and Le Page’s citizenship. Trump and the others who perpetrate this idiocy are liars.
you should be really really carefull what you wish for.. but let’s do this… let’s find an original copy of obama’s BC.. the last was deemed a fraud by no less than a dozen forensic scientist.. made on a computer.. Obama’s SS number belongs to a dead guy from Conn… so how and why does obama have it.. he never worked in Conn..and SS numbers cannot be transferred… let’s check his application for the BAR.. oops he lied on it and got caught he had to terminate his law license in order to avoid prosecution,,, and then there is the draft registration.. do that one yourself it’s interesting …a last .. how about you talk to the libs and tell them that we Americans would like to see his sealed college records.. not so much his grades.. but other stuff that relates to his foreign student status on his application for financing for his student loans… please do that for america.. the list is longer of the sealed records.. so what’s he hiding ???? nothing ? nah .. I think not .. folks don’t seal records for absolutely no reason .. do they ?
I suspect you are delusional and off your meds or you’re smoking some really potent weed.
“…very likely … ” ??? Cite some real sources or stop with the lies. You make the Tea Party proud as the truth goes by the wayside yet another time!
How can I cite real sources when his records and documents are all sealed? All one can do is speculate, and I choose to speculate that he’s hiding a lot.
They are not sealed. A few records are sealed, but mostly he has
decided that some things are not public. This is much different than
Romney not showing how many millions he shipped overseas to avoid taxes.
You are only repeating what the worst of the right says on Fox. Rather
than just repeating like a parrot, do some reading for yourself!
So you choose to speculate without facts. Isn’t that just another way of
saying you are making it all up? And you want to have an intelligent
conversation when you admit you are making it all up? Surely there must
be a fantasy.com for you to spend your time. Or are you getting
“forgetful”.
Ok Donald, guess you know better than the rest of us..the coverup is in…geesh, get off it…its getting really old.
EJ, I think the birther issue has been done and overdone. You keep moving the stake. You got proof plus that Obama was born in the US, but facts are not any reason for you to change your mind.
Ryan is the perfect fit for Romney. He was the scion of the richest family around Janesville, WI, had a well paying job in the family business, then went to Washington at age 28 for a career in politics. He approved every Bush initiative that deepened the debt, funded two wars on borrowed money, and gave tax cuts to the wealthy. What’s not to like from a Romney perspective?
In a way, I hope the Republicans win. It will make the old people who retired to FL pay for their own stuff and not depend on socialistic programs like Social Security and Medicare for upkeep.
So where was Mitt Romulan born?
Is HE really a citizen?
Who knows as his grandfather escaped to Mexico to avoid prosecution for bigomy!
Must be Obama was supposed to pass legislation without the help of the House! Better study the Constitution.
Or you can stick your fingers and your ears and go ‘NEENER NEENER AYN RAND GIVES ME WOODIES NEENER!’
Still waiting for Romneys’ transcripts and tax returns.
We do know Romney held down a gay kid at his prep school and they cut his hair because he was different. We also know he put the dog on the roof of the car and the luggage in the back of the station wagon. That says a lot about the rich kid from Michigan.
Still waiting on the real birth certificate too!
We’re still waiting for Paul Lepage’s birth certificate and US citizenship papers.
Lepage has a wife and two children in Canada where he had moved during the Vietnam war. Lepage has refused to show any proof that he is a legal US citizen or that he ever filed the proper papers after he moved back into the USA
Here’s another reason to vote for Obama. He hasn’t accomplished anything positive in the last 3 1/2 years. The country with another 4 years of this dude will undoubtably put us into financial ruin. Anybody that votes for this clown deserves what they get……
I would disagree. Thanks to Obamacare, children can stay on their parents plan until they are 26. People with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied health insurance.
Do you think it is fair that big insurance companies deny people health care insurance because, say, they have acne?
And even after Obamacare is fully implemented, 30 million will be left with no health insurance.
By the way, a 26 year old is not a child. And they were covered under a previous program pushed by Reid and Pelosi during the last two years of the Bush administration.
“By the way, a 26 year old is not a child.”
Parsing words is one of the cheapest forms of arguing, but somehow you still manage to fail. An adult is still referred to as a child in the context of the parental relationship.
Then why stop at 26 as long as the parent and child have a relationship?
Now there’s the best idea you’ve had this year: something that actually supports us little folk !
so ..my mother is nearly 90 years old.. and I am 66 years old.. I should be on my mother’s insurance ..???? my mother refers to me as her son.. and to my sister as her daughter… the last time she referred to either of us as a child was probably back in 1960 or so… so I think you are the one who fails this one.. but nice try anyway
Obama caved to Big Pharma and Big Ins. instead of insisting on single payer. That will be his greatest failing. In concert with the Bush Medicare Part D giveaway-including a clause specifically disallowing negotiating for lower prices as the VA can!!-will destroy us all.
And the alternative was millions more uninsured. You argue against yourself when you point out that Obama’s plan is better than the alternative was.
My… How times have changed. When I was growing up I was considered an adult at 18 not 26.
Consequently, I was responsible for myself and didn’t have Mommy or Daddy to support me. After serving 4 years in the military, I went to college and had to work at the same time. The lessons I learned were to set goals and work my A.. off, thanks to my parents.
Today everybody expects the rewards without earning them.
Speaking of Obamacare…. A great program but how in hell are we going to pay for it. It is the policy of this President to turn this country into a socialist state at the expense of the rich and business. If you people think that’s the right direction to go then why don’t you go to Greece for awhile and see how that’s working out. Or keep an eye out on France; the next couple of years should be interesting.
Should big insurance companies deny coverage for preexisting conditions? No, but when a condition is going to cost thousands of dollars then the insurance company should be able to charge what is appropriate to cover the cost of treatment to the individual in order to cover the expense without expecting business or policy holders to shoulder the full burden. Auto insurance works very similar. If you are a risk factor, then you pay more.
Again, another 4 years of Obama ‘positive’ programs will ruin this country and I care too deeply about this country to be a part of voting for him… If he’s elected, which I doubt, then I can at least know that whatever happens will not be part of my doing.
Excuse me. As a taxpayer I take affront at you saying”Thanks to Obamacare.” If anything it is thanks to the millions of hardworking Americans who go to work each day, budget their money, and attempt to make a run at the American dream. They are watching our country suffer because so many do not want or think they need to work. Of course you would think of a 26 year old as a “child” ….you would never want to make them accountable as long as there is “Obama-money.”
it is true that the obamacare bill does have some good things in it… but very few.. you mentioned a couple .. that’s about it.. the rest of it is fraught with increases and limititation…. it will cost an enormous amount over time and the level of service will drastically decrease.. we can do better.. we need a bill that addresses the real problem and that’s cost and leave the good stuff in it like what you mentioned.. they had a chance and the blew it.. they sold a bill of goods to trusting americans.. it will turn out to be the worst piece of legislation in the history of this nation.. and I do hope we can repeal it .. start over, include the positive elements and address the costs across the board and maintain the high medical standard that we already have …. but this bill , as it is, will bankrupt the nation, and it will mistreat people like myself who are in the twilight of life .. a senior.. seen the lies and heard the stories.. and I know the differences.. but for once I, in part, agree with your comment
Of all the problems this country faces, too many rich people ain’t one of them.
Keep taqlking about Romney’s success, by all means. Quite the contrast from the radical leftist neophyte and dimwit VP you voted for in 2008.
Romney by 10 points.
You’re right, we have too few rich people, and many Americans can’t even afford a doctor. The reason is that the top 1% are hording the money, and have destroyed our free market system. For instance, even George Bush said our health care system was a “dysfunctional” marketplace.
Corruption has destroyed the free market.
And in November, we will vote the corrupt out of office and send them packing. Chicago could use a good Community Organizer.
Are you really saying that for every dollar the “rich” hoard, that’s one less I can go out and earn?
Really?
For instance, the rich put their money banks, where it sits and earns interest, but does nothing to stimulate the economic. Another example is buying property overseas, opening bank accounts overseas, travelling to other countries to spend, and so on
They also use their money to bribe politicians and buy the best psychological manipulators money can buy.
It’s much better for the middle class to have money, which tends to get spent right away, and often locally.
so your saying its better to have no savings and to just blow through money?
I see a man, made out of straw…
I think what SpruceDweller is saying is that it’s fine to have money, as long as you spend, invest and deposit it ONLY as the Left see fit.
That is a fundamental difference between the Left and the Right. They see everything as theirs. We see what is earned as belonging to the individual.
This election will be a choice between the Socialist attitudes of the Left, and the individual attitudes of the Right.
You get that from statement that bribery is wrong?
It is more like extortion than bribery. I think back to when the justice department went after Microsoft as a good example. At the time Microsoft had no lobbyists. Microsoft’s competitors, Apple in particular, did have lobbyists and pressured their liberal friends in congress to go after Microsoft. Today Microsoft does have lobbyists to protect itself and spends millions per year.
So, let me get this straight, the rich CAN have money, as long as they don’t invest it, or save it, or spend it in a way that doesn’t suit YOU! Sounds like it’s not really THEIR money then. You do realize that you are free to do all the same things you demonize the rich for, right? Perhaps it’s just jealousy on your part because you lack the funds to do them.
Do you also dictate what banks the middle class can deposit money in? What about the other countries the middle class travel to, any restrictions there?
I agree the middle class does tend to spend what money they earn more freely, which is also a reason they will never be rich! (You can’t save it if you are too busy spending it!)
I’m saying that shouldn’t use their money to bribe politicians and thereby destroy our free market, turning it into a plutocracy. You agree this is a bad thing, right?
Or do you think money is the only standard of what’s moral?
I belonged to a Union and that’s exactly what they did spend it on (politicians) Democrats.
You actually think that money deposited in banks just sits there?
You are the perfect example of how uneducated in economics most progressives and Obama supporters are.
That is not how the money supply works. Your comments are good sound bites but not real. The fact your neighbor has more money than you does not mean because he/she has it therefore you don’t. That viewpoint is simple jealousy. Wealth is either created and destroyed. There is n0one at the bank taking money from your account and placing it in your neighbors.
first the idea that they are hoarding money is in itself a foolish statement… but then again they are not investing as they were because Obama has no idea about how to address the economic issues of this country.. throwing a trillion dollas at it didn’t work… so we are left with uncertainty .. ‘ people do not invest under those circumstances..so sure they may be holding on to their money ..but it’s not hoarding . it’s smart business. and they most certainly have not destroyed the free market system.. that’s a bizarre comment.. it’s free maket because that’s how it works.. when we are in a recession.. it falters.. it’s not the fault of the 1 % .. that’s just foolish.. if you don’t like our system head south.. to Chavez country.. there you will find a nanny state that will take care of you ….
Not even in basketball.
Not to mention Harry Reid didn’t get to his powerful position by not saying things that can’t be backed up.If someone publicly accused me of tax cheating and I could prove them wrong it wouldn’t take a minute for that to happen.Hmmm Mitt?
This is absolutely a gift for Obama.Biden will make mincemeat out of Ryan at the VP debate.
The rich should get richer, because most of them earned their money. The exceptions are those trust-fund kids like the Kennedy’s, who know they obtained their wealth through their ancestors’ work so they feel guilty about having money. Instead of giving away their wealth, they prefer to tax the rest of us hard-working people more and more.
As this forum’s most egregious Marxist, it’s no surprise that you vilify Romney while slavering for the re-election of Obama.
Or being American and mutually pledging his fortune, for the good of mankind.
Guess, he isn’t Christian, because on the 7th year the bible says to give to the poor, and the beasts.
On that note surprising no jihads are trying to bomb him, or any of the rich getting richer and not mutually pledging their fortunes. The Koran says not to hoard and to give to the beggars and those too ashamed to beg.
Is that why the towers got destroyed, Wall Street, the world trade center?
You can’t put commom sense on a poster. You either have it, or you don’t.
More like uncommon nonsense. No wonder it isn’t working.
Actually, the failure was the House of Reps led by Paul (Eddie Munster) Ryan! I didn’t see anything constructive comming from them. They are the ones in charge of the country’s purse. They were willing to sacrifice all of us to get to Obama. Sounds like a spoiled bunch of kids.
One reason is he is not Romney.
Choosing Ryan only shows many Republicans will continue to be irresponsible members of a representative democracy who’s only interest is gaining power, and not helping the American people.
Here’s the biggest troll on the BDN site spewing her ignorance again!
What FoxNews doesn’t like to report about President Obama:
Immediately started reversing the 800 thousand job losses/month of the prior administration.
Created over 4.5 million private sector jobs.
Cut taxes for all working Americans.
Cut taxes on small businesses 18 times.
Cut taxes 25 times in just first year.
26 straight months of private sector job growth.
10 quarters of economic growth.
Raised GDP by 2.9%.
Saved over 1.4 million auto industry jobs.
Expanded US manufacturing sector for 29 straight months.
Increased Medicare fraud prosecutions by 75%.
Saved taxpayers $10.7 billion in Medicare fraud.
Ended Iraq war.
Ended discrimination in the military.
Created business tax incentives for businesses to hire our returning veterans.
Held insurance companies responsible for actually insuring.
Helped parents keep 2.5 million college age children on their family health insurance plan.
Decreased dependence on foreign oil to below 50% for first time since 1997.
Increased US oil production to highest since 2003.
Increased natural gas production to highest in 30 years.
Doubled auto fuel efficiency by 2025, effectively halving the price of gas.
Increased renewable power generation by 2.3 million homes.
Credit CARD Act reduced households accruing late fees from 50% to 28%.
What are you smoking?
can you refute some of those claims as opposed to attacking the poster?
Pick one. Too may to deal with at one sitting.
God what a bunch of bunk…. lots of things wrong with those statistics…. but the biggest piece of misinformation is that GDP growth is 2.9%. It isn’t its 1.5%
Also if you drill more here (Bush did that) and have low growth of course you reduce dependence on foreign oil.
Don’t have enough time to dispute the massive lot of misinformation.
No, I would say just looking at a Romney ad would answer that question instead.
The Republican Party is the Failure!
They Fail to pay their bills!
There is nothing worse than wringing up a bar tab, and leaveing it for those next at the table and acuseing THEM for the bill!
You must be on MSNBC’s personal mailing and tweet list.
Care to cite your “lists”?
I don’t tweet.
Nonsense. Keep repeating “they don’t have a plan” by all means. The plans are there for all to see, so you are just undermining yourself. Ryan’s plan to effectively reform Medicaid may come just in time to save us from a fiscal collapse similar to Europe.
Romney Ryan 2012. That has a ring to it!
He have just lost the votes of Seniors.
This is an aweseome anouncement…..yet again, republicans are un-electable..almost as bad as Sarah Failin!!!!! Thank you idiot,.,..I mean Romney!!!!!!
wow… Mr. Meany…. dissing Paul Ryan right on the dot. within minutes of his selection annoucment…yet you apparently have not read the budget . you spit out party line but it’s wrong.. you indicate their is no economic policy… how can that be ? it’s been out there even before romney.. and for health care ..looks like you were a non paticipant there as well.. and all those spending issues are to the very last one all democrat policies not GOP… and as for the birther thingy.. that’s not over.. it’s just laying low.as soon as Obama is out of office there will be no more protection and he will be discovered.. kinda like you have just been discovered… Otis.. you didn’t do a very good job for your party … almost everything you said was wrong
Are you for real? I don’t know how to proceed so therefore I will only suggest that the 67 likes you have received from persons, really listen to the issues of the campaign and the ideas presented by both candidates. Sadly I think my state of Maine is lost. There are no jobs, drugs, alcohol, babies having babies seems to have taken over…very sad.
Yeah, but look how pretty they are. Perfect smiles, perfect hair, sleeves rolled up like they’re pretending to work for the common man. Come on who can resist all that charm. They’re all that most of us aren’t and they know it. Electing them will finish off the middle class. The country will be in financial ruin, the poor will die, the middle class will not exist, and the rich will just move to their mansions in another country.
There goes any hope for those making under $100K per year. We are so phuqued!
Great pick for demonstrating that the fringe has become the mainstream for the Republican party.
It seems that the ‘fringe’ has taken over the Republican Party.
Yea, almost as far Right as obama took the Democrats Left!
Far left democrats – Good!
Far right Republicans – Bad!
Once an ideologue always an ideologue.
Speaking of …
“Back to my yogurt!” I have to find out what kind because I can’t imagine anyone “digging in” to a cup of yogurt. Sorry, yogurt aficianados, maybe I just don’t get it. Now, back to my burger, or even better, back to my lobster – that I could believe.
I guess we might as well throw in the towel and continue with BO and Co for 4 more years. Yuck.
GO ahead, quitters love quitters!

Slashing taxes for the wealthy and even MORE Defense spending. This guy’s budget is a sham.
Just think of all the Job’s the defense dept. creates. The “Dems” will be forced to talk about substance for a change
And Republicans were the ones railing against stimulus jobs and government jobs in general — now it’s good? Have some principles here. Either you’re for cutting the budget or you’re not. Either you’re for increased government spending or you’re not. You can’t have it both ways.
First of all keeping your country safe is good, second Boeing, Grumman are priviate company’s doing a service for the USA. GMC is not doing a service for the USA. Boeing is not stimulus money but a bid price for service.
It’s government spending and advocating more and more of it makes this hypocrisy.
You must be against Obama because he is spending what we don’t have ( hypocrisy).
LOL! Do you think I won’t notice you changing the subject? I don’t mind cutting government spending, but every part of the budget should be cut. Ryan and Romney think we should slash parts in order to pay for more Defense spending. That’s wrong and that’s hypocrisy.
Where will their Dem cut the budget, or should I say they haven’t passed a budget in the Dem controlled senate in three years.
You’re changing the subject again. Again because you can’t address the hypocrisy.
Democrats do want to cut the budget, but they want it to be coupled with ending the Bush tax cuts. We can’t continue to keep going further and further into debt. There needs to be compromise.
Wow Grover Noquist has one of his puppets running for Vice President of the United States of America. Will Mitt Romney sign up to be a puppet of Grover Norquists or is he already signed?
I hearby Vow to NEVER vote for any politician who would sign a pledge to any outside unelected entity.
It’s bad enough that we have a Governor in Maine who has signed on as one of Grover Norquists puppets, 4 Senators and 32 house members are also his puppets.
Apparently, holding politicians accountable just ain’t your bag. So cool and groovy, man.
Accountable to whom?
Accountable to who? Their constituants or an unelected power broker?
I think that their constituents would or should be of more concern than Grover Norquists manipulating the workings of our government.
So you can drink some tea and do your own groove.
http://www.cjr.org/campaign_desk/what_makes_paul_ryan_tick.php. Very good article to read. You will see why he picked him.. For those of you that won’t click this link. This is what Ryan stands behind.. His plan would reduce federal spending for many programs, including programs for the poor and Medicare. Cost
government about $551 billion last year. Ryan’s voucher plan, which would shift much of the responsibility for paying for healthcare from the government to seniors themselves. Not good. The rich don’t care about the poor or the middle class.
Ryan may win Mitt the right wing who were going to vote for him anyways even though they don’t like him.
Let’s see, now: a Mormon who has backslid against the strong belief in community values his faith should have taught him, joins an acolyte of Ayn Rand, who thought community values nothing but obstacles in the path of selfishness. Wow, just what we need in times when community ought be given far more attention than it has in the past three decades.
And the bit about “… sacrificing (any sort of sacrifice but taxing the wealth where it lies, apparently) so that the next generation has it better than the current one…” What, pray tell, did George Romney sacrifice (other than American Motors which constantly lost market share before being swallowed by Chrysler)so that little Mitt could have a better life? Ryan’s father died when Paul was a child, possibly leaving a terrible void in the boy’s private world, which I hope isn’t the sort of sacrifice Mitt has in mind. But, then, what IS in his mind? Does anyone really know? Does he?
If you don’t like Social Security,Medicare,Medicaid and lower taxes for the middle class and poor this is your “Dream Team”. Paul Ryan’s budget plan which he dubbed ” The Path to Prosperity” is actually the Road to Ruin for middle class Americans. If they get elected and institute their budget plans it will add another $9 Trillion to our debt and if they repeal Obama Care that will add Billions to our debt and thousands of people will die because of lack of healthcare if they are refused insurance because of pre-existing conditions. This is a blessing in disguise for the Obama campaign.
Wake up. Romney/Ryan offers a clear choice: Stick with Obama/Biden to grow an out-of-control government that picks winners and losers, abdicates its responsibilty to enforce laws such as our border laws OR liberate the private sector from oppressive taxes and regulations and will protect the borders.
Romney/Ryan by 10 points.
Your the one that needs to wake up. Obame doubled the amount of guards on our borders after he took office and he has deported more people than Bush ever did. As far as oppressive taxes go that’s a bunch of B.S. too.We may have some of the highest tax rates for businesses but the tax codes are stuffed so full of loopholes many major corporations don’t pay any taxes at all un-regulated businesses are what got us into the financial mess we are in now. Tax rates are at a 60 year low rightg now. The Tax Policy Center has said that if Romney’s budget plan was approved it would add $5 Trillion dollars to our deficit on top of $4 Trillion if we keep the Bush tax cuts in place. His budget plan would give a millionair $87,000 in tax breaks a year and increase taxes on the middle class wage earners by $2,000 dollars a year. In other words if your a middle class wage earner your going to pay for tax breaks for wealthy people and this is not going to stimulate job growth .
Obama/Biden by a landslide.
Obama/Biden = Romney/Ryan. Both sides of the same coin.
Remember the blank budget the R’s brought out? That was a Ryan “idea”And realistically Obamacare will not be repealed-the ins cos. and drug cos. are just now getting richer from it.
And if elected, I promise there will be brats and beers for everyone but you have to wear a Green Bay Packer jersey on game day. Monday we will hit the gym…
Its’ easy ( and funny) to see how this scares the *bleep* out of the Left by reading all their silly, pathetic posts!
If you still think you boy can win, bring it on in November. Let the voters decide!
Yeah, keep calling him a boy. That’ll make the country believe the far right isn’t a bunch of racists.
Only YOU would take that as a derogatory comment. It’s a common term, used all the time. You need to get out of your Hobbit hole more often!
The only voters Romney has left are middle aged white racist males.
I dare you to tell that to Alan West.
There’s an exception to every rule EJ. If Romney wanted to get moderate voters, this wasn’t the way. Ryan is smarter then Sarah Palin, but still to polarizing. He’s just to far right for swing voters.
Ryan will bring the waffling Conservatives to the voting booths in November. Ryan was a smart pick, and he will make Biden look like a buffoon in the debates. Other than that, Ryan’s budget plan was the most feared piece of legislation in modern times, because it would work to get the country back on track.
The left is shaking in their boots this morning. Just look at all the kind comments the lefties are posting. Nothing but fear in their fingers as they pound the keyboards in disgust.
Ah, so the conservatives were waffling. Just like Romney?
Thanks, that was SO helpful to the thread.
We’ll see, won’t we!
Obama’s the one that has a 45% approval rating.
Yeah, it’s a common term used by disrespectful racists towards black men in order to demean them. It refers back to slave times and beyond, it’s used by the fringe right today quite often — then, when they’re called on their poor behavior, they pretend to be ignorant of how calling the President a boy could possibly be offensive.
It’s pathetic and cowardly. You know what you’re doing. Just grow up already.
And I reiterate, only you and your ilk would see it as derogatory. Being involved in sports, I hear the term ‘boy’ used all the time, and about athletes that are men, not boys!
You sure are easily offended! Must be a Liberal thing!
Actually, it is just another way to deflect from the failures of their chosen one. Oops, I should not have called him that. I’ll be labeled something.
Darn right, deflection master.
Nope. As stated before, it’s derogatory. To many of us.
I doubt that he/she/it even understands the reference. We’re not dealing with the sharpest tool on the shelf. Don’t waste your breath.
Well, don’t you think highly of yourself! Must be a brain-dead liberal thing!
And who leads off every post by insulting intelligence?
Actually, many of us take due notice every time the rabid right/TP uses that derogatory term. It’s a common term all right, especially in the South (or militant North). Exemplary of the blind mission most rabid Rs have been preaching since the election. Would not have happened (at least to this extent) if Obama had been white.
Are you the same person who calls people against same sex marriage a racists, bigots, ect? At least you use the same words against anyone who might have a different opinion than you.
Another 4 years of seeing your racist comments after Barry boots Mitt in November will be priceless. The right is crying today because they realize Mitt made the biggest blunder as his VP choice. :)
Yea, I just watched the announcement. They were all crying all right!
The talking (and blogging/posting) dunderheads on the left were poised to demonize whomever he picked. It’s all you have, cause you sure can’t run on inept failure and incompetence!
Whaa, Whaa, from the right. Obama kicked their but$s and is still kicking the racist bigots in the teeth. RomneyCare is the rule of the land and you are stuck with it. Thank you tighty-righties.
We’ll see, won’t we. Of course you will take back your words when Romney wins, right?
Oh yea, Liberals NEVER admit a mistake!
I’m not a liberal. I voted for Lepage and he has turned into the biggest mistake Maine has ever made. Romney and Obama are basically the same, but Obama has stopped the bleeding that my old party gave us. Becoming an Independent is the way to go. Now as far as Mitt, “He will lose!”
You can’t get any more Radical then Tea Party Ryan. Romney better forget about any moderate vote coming to his side now. Ryan wants to Destroy Social Security, Destroy Medicare and Destroy Medicaid. Romney just made a Pact with Lucifer Himself. Going to be a lot of dead, dying, disabled, poor Old Folks in the streets if this Satanic Team wins. Talk about Death Squads. Romney eliminates Obama Care Insurance and Ryan finishes you off by eliminating all of the other Safety Programs.
I heard there going to sell Chicago to Iraq. It’s called the “Obama Packing Treaty”
Definitely a Faustian pact.
You can tell how scared the Left is by how loudly they whine!
Whine away folks!
actually you’re the one posting excessively. all while making 0 sense. your comment of Barry being too far left is not even close to accurate. especially given that he made many compromises to try and get traction behind the congressional body being productive. all we can tell from your multiple posts is that your an uneducated internet troll.
I’ll bow to your self-serving sense of superiority!
Funny how all you can do is attack the person, not the post!!! Typical Liberal tactic!
Oh my. Who’s the first with lack of intelligence put-downs? Not personal attacks? Hardly.
You’re whining the loudest.
Look again, I’m celebrating! You on the left are the ones whining about this now!
You really thought Romney wouldn’t pick a strong VP? Not our fault obama chose a loser like Biteme!
Romney killed a lady just like Laura Bush killed a boy with her car.
Keep crying, we love it!
That guzzling sound is the Left drinking their Kool Aid!
Strong? Possibly more like a 95 pound weakling? (have to be old enough to get that one)
Must be describing yourself.
Who’s whining? Ds should be overjoyed.
Every voting American should read the CBO summary of the Ryan plan. Google it. There are plenty of credible summaries out there. It’s scary stuff for all but the super wealthy (who receive tax CUTS in his plan).
After reading about it, from my perspective, it’s nothing more than an amazing statement of the boundless greed of the super rich under the banner of balancing the budget (by 2050). I am not super rich, but would gladly pay more taxes than live in a country where we cut taxes on the wealthy while at the same time bankrupt seniors and deny health care to most working class Americans.
What a perfect contrast for the GOP ticket. A presidential candidate with a long history of tax dodging, and a vp candidate with a long history of arguing that the safety net must be dismantled because of the lack of revenue.
As opposed to a President that has sealed his life from public view and a VP that is so inept that there’s no way he could handle his boss’s job if the need arose.
Keep crying, we love it!
This choice should help secure the ethnic vote! lol.
These two are perfect for each other, Ryan will ensure their defeat. Yahoo and yippee ki aye.
Thank you Mitt for listening to the extreme right. By not picking Rice or Rubio, who would have taken the Independents and Reagan Dems, you have solidified yourself with the most extreme elements of the right wing fringe. What a dope!
There won’t be many seniors voting for this less than dynamic duo— here’s your death squad.
Seniors haven’t forgot that Obama stole 500 million from medicare in Obama care. Seniors know there will be nothing left to medicare if Obama is re-elected.
Actually, Romney has the senior demographic locked up. The Ryan plan does not touch existing benefits for seniors, which is all they need to know.
What a great day for America and the Democratic Party!
Yes it is! America is back on the road to greatness, and the Dems will soon be history – possible for the next 16 years! That IS a great day for America!
If the Dems cared more for America than they do about their own political careers, then the US would be in MUCH better shape today and they would stand a chance in November.
I hope you all notice these two soft shoe artists moments ago came dancing off a warship to announce their bid for office. The war drum beats loud, don’t be fooled by these fools they’re not fooling anyone, War is the word.
It’s Bush all over again, except that these guys are on steroids.
Yawn!
I used to have a dog named Abby, she yawned a lot too.
But she was smarter than most liberals, though!
and almost as vicious as a wingnut but she didn’t foam at the mouth.
And smarter than ALL the Rightwing nuts!
What do these two know about the military except the companies that make weapons give them bundles of money. Neither one of them were in the military.
You got that right !!
Godspeed Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. Let’s take this country back – from the socialists, from our enemies, from the freeloaders – both individuals and special interests.
Speaking of special interests (which are most of the R supporters).
Sometimes I think half the comments on here are from freeloaders internet surfing at the library waxing on about corporate greed but failing to ever hold down an actual job
It doesn’t make a difference who Romney picked because the left-wing, hateful, name-calling, ignorant are going to demonize him or her. Romney could have picked Hillary Clinton in an effort to unite the county, and the left would turn on her. The left has turned into a snake pit filled with slithering hatemongers. And that’s why they are going to lose big in November. Americans are getting tired of the hate and fear mongering.
You complain about name calling and then in the very same breath you call others all sorts of names. That’s hypocrisy.
I take it that since you chose to ignore what I said and insult me directly that you actually agree with my comment. Thank you for your support.
Who’s agreeing with you? I’ve done so once or twice but far more often I don’t.
Why do you keep doing that? “Thank you for your support”? I obviously don’t support what you’ve said. I pointed out your all too typical hypocrisy. That has nothing to do with me supporting you.
And again, you accuse me of ignoring what you said and then you go on to ignore what I’ve said. More hypocrisy from you.
Don’t cry about name-calling and then in the same sentence call others names. Like I said before, that’s hypocrisy and I don’t support it.
What do you mean ‘turned into’, they’ve ALWAYS been a snake pit of slithering hatemongers!
Actually, about 45 years ago the Dems were a somewhat decent bunch. They started their drastic left turn with Carter, then made a complete overhaul with Clinton. Now they’re just a bunch of lost, Godless sheep. Zell Miller was the last old-school Democrat.
Funny how the holier than thou lot are the ones always starting the unpaid for wars, as it turns out not only are they hypocrites but they’re cheap hypocrites.
Are you referring to President Bush… or Democrats in Congress who voted “YES”?
Neither.
Agreed, but did you ever think the Left would elect someone that would make us yearn for Clinton? The longer obama is around, the better Clinton looks!
In fact, the less inept Carter looks – and that’s saying a lot!
Gee Michelle Bachman, Alan West, Joe Walsh, Donald Trump, Rush Limbaugh and
Reince Priebus are such good shepards of civility. I see why you try to deflect the nastiness to the Democrats.
There, there. Don’t disprove EJP when he’s on a roll. That’s not support for this opinion.
Well said, EJ!
It doesn’t make a difference whom Obama would pick because the right-wing,
hateful, name-calling, ignorant are going to demonize him or her. Obama
could have picked Paul Ryan in an effort to unite the county, and
the right would turn on him. The right has turned into a snake pit filled
with slithering hatemongers. And that’s why they are going to lose big
in November. Americans are getting tired of the hate and fear mongering.
Hmmm. Seems to me where most of the name calling, H-ful, not-s-wise preaching is coming from is on the conservative side.
Great choice with Paul Ryan. I am looking forward to the VP debate. Obama won’t be able to say whats your plan. The next two and half months will be fun.
Fun for the Ds.
This is FANTASTIC news. What a clear choice! Dems can say what they want about “Republicans don’t have a plan” (never true) but now that bogus talking point is off the table. Ryan’s plan to reform Medicaid just may come in time to avert the fiscal cliff this country is hurtling toward under Obama/Reid/Pelosi.
Hats off to Mr. Romney for a bold choice that signals his seriousness about addressing this country’s most significant challenges.
Plus, I am already making popcorn for the Ryan/Biden debate. We will see intellect vs. blather, principle vs. cheap political opportunism on display.
“HE” didn’t pick Ryan, “THEY”,( the neocons) picked Ryan. This pick
wasn’t “BOLD”, it was “TOLD”. When it was announced the loudest cheers
came from the White House. Build up the Ryan’s debating skills and when he fails to win the further he will fall.
Jake, So pleased you’re able to provide the rest of us mere mortals with true insights into such matters. Thanks.
Your welcome. :)
Here we go again with “NeoCons” – I’m sure you will blame the landslide win by Romney/Ryan on Haliburton, Koch brothers, Blackwater, or your tinfoil hat wrapped too tightly
Like most republicans, you better change your diaper, your old bowels are weak and runny.
Been into the kool aid again Jake? You are so very wrong. maybe your source was Doonesbury.
Romney was given his marching orders and now is stepping in his own crap.
It appears that Harry Reid is sitting in his own. Romney does not take orders. He is not a puppet. He scares the crap out of the Libs due to the fact he is a decent and well respected candidate.
While your concerned with Reid, Barry just scooped up the Hispanic vote and Florida. Mitt is the gift that keeps on giving. 4 more years of neocon crying!
Harry and Barry and Nancy and Joe, add Rahm, Holder will be in the unemployment line in Nov.
Go ahead and stick with Barry and the Choom Gang. They are goin’ “down in smoke”.
Clear? More like continued murky. And guess which side the continuing blather will come from.
It has been murky during the current administration. At least both GOP guys have valid birth certificates.
Mitt Romney made the best choice available. Paul Ryan is a true leader and master of how to reduce this budget while keeping businesses alive. I’m not a huge Mitt Romney fan but Paul Ryan as VP gets them my check and vote. We have to reduce the spending on the entitlements.
The Republicans love to talk about welfare and cutting all that government spending but they never seem to want to change the tax breaks, loophole and banking regulations that allow them and their rich friends to skirt paying their fair share of taxes. I guess it is only welfare if you are poor or middle class.
The optics are staggering while watching Romney and Ryan speak their spin. One a Washington insider with no business experience, the other a business man who refuses to allow his employer to be to look into his past. Set in a shipyard, the backdrop a warship and neither with military experience. Both are sissy war hawks that will gladly send our children into harm’s way. Be sure of that.
Did you state, “Look into his past”?
Which candidate for President were you referring to: The one who’s “only” provided two year’s of tax returns, or the one who’s locked his Social Security Number history, college application or transcripts, passport used to travel overseas?
Romney SHOULD release additional years… just as soon as Obama releases more of his own “history”.
I was referring to this article regarding Romney’s VP pick. To stay on topic, let’s see if Romney can pass his job interview. I’ll bet you $10K he can’t. He’ll be unwilling to show us the kind of businessman he portends to be; not that he’s broken the law as the birthers contend Obama has. Romney instead stands for all that is wrong with big business: the loop holes those business interests write into our tax codes that are self-serving that the majority of people can never take advantage of; and a tax system that serves only the interests of the elites.
Like Draft Dodger Cheney the War Criminal.
Again, using terms like “brain-dead puppets on the left” might be fun for you, but all it does is stir up hatred. Why not try research, or arguments, or some links. It will elevate the conversation.
For instance, our middle class is shrinking away, while the wealthy 1% got much richer:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/16/us/middle-class-areas-shrink-as-income-gap-grows-report-finds.html
Romney announces his running mate Paul Ryan as the next (President) of the United States…Just the beginning of many screw-ups to come.
Name all 57 states?
Romney is stoned again or it may be his Reagan like Alzheimers.
Hey at least he has a valid birth certificate……………….
Awesome choice (for liberals). Ryan is proposing nothing different from what the Bush administration did for 8 years. Take from the middle class and give to the wealthy. Kind of like a reverse Robin Hood. I admire self-made millionaires but have little respect for those who make their money off the backs of those less fortunate. Do you really want to vote for a guy who gets a tax write off of 70,000 for ONE horse or has an elevator is his garage? Conspicious consumption is very distaseful. I would love to hear more about his past tax returns and his money in banks abroad. He is very shady!
Wake up Paul Ryan is trying to save Medicare before we all lose it. Have you noticed all the cities filing for bankruptcy since Obama became president. Medicare is heading for failure unless We have a different President in 2012.
The reverse Robin Hood rhetoric is just regurgitated gibberish Obama spewed earlier this week. Government does not serve to take money from one class and give it to another – regardless of what political party is in charge – but Democrats and some RINO Republicans thing that’s what taxes are for – to rob from one man to pay another. Classic socialism that’s all it is. I’m annoyed with all the class warfare – just do your job and stop whining about who is rich or poor. Enough whining already.
You are exactly right. Socialists whine because they didn’t earn
what someone else did.. There is no level playing field; not every kid wins the
spelling bee and not every worker gets to be CEO; reality is tough.
Public sector unions are gonna hate this choice…
Can’t wait to see the Ryan/Biden debates.
Me too! Biden the floor mop!
Gary Johnson 2012!
pardon my ignorance but is Lepage even a delegate, non-voting or not? How about Charlie?
Romney would have been better off with a governor.
The Democrats can easily link Ryan to a very unpopular and dysfunctional Congress, personified by Ryan, Cantor, and their ilk.
My guess is none of the governors wanted the job.
All this debate about spending makes little sense when one realized that neither side is particularly known for cutting government spending at all. Republicans are quick to take up the mantle of fiscal restraint, but almost always increase spending when in office. When you divorce discretionary spending from the increases in cyclical spending (automatic transfers, for example), the largest increases under outlays have come from classic Republican causes like immigration reform, defense, and homeland security. Nondefense discretionary spending has increased, of course, but not to the extent that folks like Romney would have you believe.
Some of you need to lighten up and do something better with your time than spew useless hate. Posting your tirades on this web site isn’t going to make your world or any persons better.
No, they take away jobs. It’s called “consolidation.” It’s called, from Romney’s perspective, being a “corporate raider.”
And government jobs are bad, so we should cut funding for teachers, police officers, court workers, etc — oh but there is an exception. Let’s spend even more on Defense, despite the fact that the Pentagon is asking for a smaller budget.
Paul Ryan is Cheney on steroids
SOOOOOOOO going to LOSE!!!
Romney: He’s the flip- flop- oppotamus, his lies are bottomless…
( Flight of the Conchords, anyone?)
LOL Romney is already flip-flopping on his running mate! Says he won’t be using the Ryan budget. The only reason to pick Ryan is because of that budget plan he drew up and now you’re tossing it?
No, this is a total misrepresentation. I honestly think that all you are accomplishing is (a) to make the GOP look foolish, and (b) turning yourself into a clown. Please try to be fair, or provide an argument, reference, or link.
It would help the quality of the discussion if you did.
Two enemies of the working middle class – Chop and Slash. Goodbye Medicare and Healthcare, Equal Pay, Minimum Wage.
Chop and Slash the purveyors of Corporatism, if these two get in we’ll be saying goodbye to a lot more than that.
A Death Squad consecrated in Hell. Romney and Ryan.
Great choice by Governor Romney. Rep Ryan actually proposed a budget that got votes, as opposed to Obama who could not get any votes. He is a leader WITH A PLAN. This is a great choice for VP!
Ryan’s plan is to destroy the Old, Disabled, Poor Americans by eliminating their Government Safety Nets and handing over the Billions of Dollars to the Koch Brothers and other mega millionaires. Sounds like a budget right out of Mein Kampf.
Actually, government seizing control of industry, bailouts, etc is both out of Mein Kampf and the Obama platform. Thanks for playing though.
I bet you were right at the front of the line screaming how terrible it was for LePage to say Gestapo… Yet look at you now, comparing a responsible budget plan to the extermination of the jews. You liberals make me sick.
I’m sure MSNBC has already trashed his choice for VP. 4 more years of failed Obama policies and inreasing deficits. Something to look forward to, isnt it?
I’m looking forward to the commercial where they push grandma off the cliff while she’s sitting in a wheelchair, it speaks volumes for Republican charm and their twisted policies. It’s only their voter suppression that is more uplifting.
Typical liberal fashion – blame Romney for cancer, blame Romney for sick people dying in hospitals….what’s next – global warming? or are we back to global cooling? or is it just climate change? I’m actually surprised that you are no longer blaming Bush for every little thing that happens. “Voter suppression” – is that what you call the backlash in 2010?
And in those two years Jonathan you’ve been found out and what you guys are peddling is best left in your Depends. You’ve been tried and found wanting, the jig is up, there is nothing Patriotic in anything your circus is trying to perpetrate. Romney and Ryan are as far from what this country needs as the planet Uranus. Keep drinking the CoolAid, keep your bellies full of ultra rightwing extremism and your Depends fresh, someone will eventually come along and clean you up, but till then the only place you guys are going in this next election is down.
Twisted policies and Repubilcan charm?? What about the liar Harry Reid. What about the blaming of Romney for the womans death?? Liberal Democratic gutter mindset if you ask me.
You are looking forward to lies. Why would anybody be surprised?
It’s actually the absolute truth and the reality of Ryan’s knuckle dragging plan to turn what works into a voucher program, only an extreme cracker would believe differently.
Is it too late for all the Obama groupies to get refunds on their campaign contributions? It’s pretty sad when a Presidential campaign by a sitting POTUS runs a multimillion dollar campaign deficit and can’t even fill a stadium with supporters. The emotional high of hope and change has been replaced by the reality that America is broke and you cannot and will not spend your way out of this ongoing recession. November 2012 is our chance to elect a team that has a real resume – not a community organizer – and not a bumbling Senator from Delaware who has spent his life working the system to make it more inefficient.
well, there is a goofy looking vp
Romney goes on and on for months about Obama not having private sector experience — so, in typical Romney fashion, he flip flops and picks a VP that has no private sector experience.
This will be an epic defeat of a Party that can no longer be called Republican, God knows that to call them but Republicans they are not.
They are The Tea Party now. Officially or Corporate Fascists what ever you like. Republicans, they are NOT. Now we have a face for the Commercial. Ryan will be the guy pushing Grandma off the Cliff in a wheel chair. Those are his stated policies.
Typical liberal response. You can’t even cut the rate of growth in ANY entitlement program without the left rolling out the Grandma off the Cliff in a wheel chair lie. If you don’t increase a particular program it does NOT constitute a cut in that program. That is Washington speak. Painting Ryan as an extremist is laughable. He can explain himself and he will and he will do it well. I can’t wait for the debates between Ryan and Bumbling Biden. Someone who actually knows what they are talking about vs. someone who is a walking talking blooper reel. Ryan will eat him for lunch. I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama dumps Biden for one of the Clintons in light of the desperation currently coming out of their campaign lately. The debt and the deficit are serious problems. Obama wants to continue his plan to add to both and the Republican wants to reverse it. It provides the voters with a clear choice. Stay on the road to ruin or change course now before it is too late. See you in November.
Um, Palin is the one who invented that line if you recall.
The progressive liberal doesn’t realize he is an advocate for his own demise.
there’s a completely crazy lot of right wing crackers out there who had the reins of power for many consecutive years. They completely screwed things up to the point of proving to be fumble fingered fools and now they purport to have all the answer and solutions when in reality their full of BS.
Here is an idea. Most people don’t like to work much overtime, because they see no sense since it is all taxed, but it is still cheaper for a company to have people work overtime than hire another individual. Maybe businesses should be taxed more for overtime, and is there a way to make it cheaper to hire another person, then push people to work overtime?
Then we’re back to encouraging them to go overseas for slave labor……
a voucher system for medicare? you’d better not get too sick in your old age.
Why? Voucher systems work very well for education where the educational unions are held at bay. I would love to have vouchers so that I could keep the coverage I have now.
“Ayn Rand, more than anyone else, did a fantastic job of explaining the morality of capitalism, the morality of individualism, and this to me is what matters most.”
paul ryan
two dicks
It’s not too late. Ron Paul 2012.
Paul Ryan is the very face of middle class America. B’rick had better come up with a new plan of nasty.
A lifetime politician is the face of the middle class?
Yes.
In 1984 Mitt Romney received 9 million dollars from the same central American families who have been linked to the death squads in El Salvatore. Those death squads murdered tens of thousands of central Americans and they are the people who raped and murdered three American Catholic nuns for ministering to the poor. They even assassinated Archbishop Óscar Romero for his social activism
This response is longer than I would like, but to adequately rebut the
comment to which I am primarily responding took time.
EJParsons posted, “You’re not gonna see his transcripts, thesis paper,
college and financial aid applications, or any of the other sealed documents
because they would very likely out him as either a foreign student applicant or
a liar when it comes to his natural place of birth.”
Once again the bogus “birther issue” conspiracy theory rears its
uninformed, oblivious head. Facts mean nothing to people whose minds are narrow
and closed, but for the record and for those individuals who actually form
opinions based on empirical knowledge, here it is.
Please pay close attention, because I am going to debunk what
you said, including citing Bill O’Reilly and Michelle Bachmann to do so, who
are, I suspect, two of your authority figures.
First, Hawaii State law – According to the Department of Hawaiian
Homelands:
“Birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth and Certifications of
Live Birth) and Certificates of Hawaiian Birth are the primary documents used
to determine native Hawaiian qualification.
The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands accepts both Certificates of Live Birth
(original birth certificate) and Certifications of Live Birth because they are
official government records documenting an individual’s birth. The Certificate
of Live Birth generally has more information which is useful for genealogical
purposes as compared to the Certification of Live Birth which is a
computer-generated printout that provides specific details of a person’s birth.
Although original birth certificates (Certificates of Live Birth) are preferred
for their greater detail, the State Department of Health (DOH) no longer issues
Certificates of Live Birth. When a request is made for a copy of a birth
certificate, the DOH issues a Certification of Live Birth.”
On June 12, 2008 candidate Obama issued a Certification of Live Birth
(short form). “Birther” extremists continued their denial.
On April 22, 2011 President Obama released the longer form Certificate
of Live Birth. “Birther” extremists continued their denial.
On May 22, 2012 a Verification of Birth, confirming the authenticity of
President Obama’s Birth Certificate was provided to the Arizona Secretary of
State by the Hawaii State Registrar. Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said that Hawaii’s Verification of
Birth satisfies Arizona requirements, and that Barack Obama will appear on the
November 2012 ballot. “Birther” extremists have
continued their denial.
Here is a weblink to the Hawaiian Verification of Birth: http://media.washtimes.com/media/community/misc/2012/05/25/obama-verification-of-birth.pdf
Secondly, here are a weblink and pertinent Bill O’Reilly comments from
April 11, 2011:
http://nation.foxnews.com/president-obama-rumors/2011/04/12/obama-s-college-thesis-medical-records-and-birth-certificate-facto
“Item: His thesis from Columbia has not been made public.
False. He didn’t do a thesis.
Item: No birth certificate
has been made public. (My note – B. O’Reilly didn’t reference the 06/12/2008
short form release and the long form was released 11 days after his comments)
True. But the state of
Hawaii has, once again, said Mr. Obama’s birth certificate is on file. A
certificate of live birth has been released. A “Factor” investigation
also showed Mr. Obama was born in a Honolulu hospital and we stand by our
reporting.”
On ABC’s Good Morning America in April, 2011, even Michelle Bachmann
accepted the legality of President Obama’s U.S. citizenship.
Thirdly, transcripts (high
school and college) and college applications that include citizenship or
nationality are documented primarily by birth certificates and passports, as
well as various combinations of secondary documents. Where a student attends
school is not indicative of citizenship. For multiple reasons, thousands of
American students attend educational institutions in foreign countries every
year. This doesn’t alter their U.S. citizenship. The documented Hawaiian birth
certificate is the root source. The reference to releasing transcripts and
college applications is irrelevant.
Fourthly, foreign students are eligible for U.S. federal student aid
within extremely limited, defined parameters. The bogus conspiracy theory “birther”
version of President Obama’s nationality does not fit the foreign student
eligibility requirement for federal student aid, but the verified Hawaiian birth
certificates do make him qualified.
This information about the eligibility of foreign students to receive
U.S. federal student financial aid is from the U.S. Dept. of Education Federal
Student Aid website http://studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility
:
“Generally, if you have a “green card” (in other words, if you are
a permanent resident alien), you will be considered an “eligible noncitizen”
and will be able to get federal student aid if you meet the other basic
eligibility criteria. Full details of which immigration statuses make you an
eligible noncitizen are at our Non-U.S. Citizen
page.”
Here is a link to the Non-U.S. Citizen page: http://studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility/non-us-citizens
President Obama has never had an “immigration status”.
Since your opinion has zero grounding in reality, everything that you
say about anything is suspect. What you said is not a simple mistake or
misunderstanding. The only conclusion is that this and other baseless attacks on
the President by you and your ideological kin are the result of blind adherence
to ignorance, bigotry, and bias. “Mob mentality” is irrational and dangerous.
We voted out Carter because he was a failure
and his economy was a disaster. We ousted
Bush Sr. because his economy was not good
and he RAISED taxes. Now you think this
failure of a president has done a good job and
you want to keep him? I guess the idea is, since
I can’t be successful on my own, let the govt
take care of me and the community organizer
will break the country so we all can go down the
ladder instead of up. We want businesses to not
be successful and create jobs so we can all get
free food stamps. Actually we want businesses to
GIVE us what we deserve…their money.Anyone
who dares to say this country needs to cut spending
and tries to do something about it will be accused
of killing granny, starving the children, taking women’s
“rights” away, etc etc. The Liar in Chief we have now is
a fraud and a fake and you sheep can’t stand up and admit
your mistake in putting him in office. And you want another
4 more years of this? Good luck!
It matters not who Romney picked, the Left fully intends to destroy them. They have to, they sure can’t run on obama’s record of failure. Obama has never won an election based on facts. Even Hope & Change has proven to be a lie!
Ryan, like Romney AND Obama, is just another big government statist who violates our rights while promoting war.
