AUBURN, Maine — Few details were available about a three-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Route 4 that occurred Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 4:33 p.m. at the intersection of Route 4 and Lake Shore Drive.

According to police, a northbound 1997 Toyota driven by Melissa Brown, 20, was stopped on Route 4 waiting to turn left onto Lake Shore Drive. Behind her was a 2002 Scion driven by Amy Liberman, 33. And behind Liberman was a 1995 Ford pickup driven by Chester Merriam, 33, of Sumner.

Police said the truck hit the back of the Scion, pushing it into the Toyota.

Neither Brown nor Merriam had any passengers in their vehicles. Liberman had three passengers. Police would not release any information on any of the passengers.

A crash reconstructionist from Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene. Police said they did not believe alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation Monday night.

No other details were available.
