OLD TOWN – Donald D. York, 83, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, after a short illness. He was born Oct. 5 1928, in Old Town.
Donald was a graduate of Old Town High School and Husson College. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was associated with Eastern Trust Banking Co., and remained until it became Bank of America. In his early years, Donald enjoyed hiking and retelling about his Katahdin descent while experiencing leg cramps. Donald had a life time interest in classical music, jazz, nature and scientific information. Donald was quick-witted, loving and a steadfast friend and family member. He was dearly loved by his family.
He was predeceased by his parents, George Oscar and Leona (Burnham) York. Donald is survived by his sisters, Helen Y. Smith and husband, Frank, of Portland, and Barbara Y. Sturgeon and husband, Dick, of Portland; nephews, Kendall Smith of Waterbury, Conn., and Andrew Smith of Portland; nieces, Lisa Smith of Portland, Rebecca Labor-Smith of South Portland, Joellen S. Ford of New Canaan, Conn., and Jana S. Thorbahn of Duxbury, Mass.; aunt and uncle, Barbara and Beverly Burnham of Pushaw Pond; special cousin, Roger Burnham; and good friend, Nathaniel Watkins.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date.
