A day after blogs shut down, publisher out at Down East magazine

By Heather Steeves, BDN Staff

ROCKPORT, Maine — The publisher of Down East Magazine has left the position, according to Publishers Weekly.

John Viehman’s position will be filled by CEO Bob Fernald.

“John worked tirelessly for this organization in his six years here, overseeing a rebuilding of our ad-sales team, consolidating the Down East brand throughout our product line, and launching the streaming video program The Down East Channel,” Fernald told Publishers Weekly. “I personally wish him well, as do all of us here.”

The company has no immediate plans to name a replacement, according to Publishers Weekly.

The announcement came the same week writers for the magazine’s online edition were told that the blogs would be discontinued.
