Safari-style hat will keep you safer from the sun

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we’re not doing enough to shield ourselves from harmful ultraviolet rays — with a 2005 study showing only 56 percent of U.S. adults use any form of sun protection. With the summer sun remaining as relentless as ever, outdoor enthusiasts need to consider their options. Not interested in slathering your face and neck with sunscreen, which may emit toxic chemicals and requires constant reapplication? A solid sun hat such as the Seirus Quick Shade Safari Hat can give you the protection you need.

It has a wide brim for all-around shade and a sewn-in bandana that can be used as a neck protector or face mask, providing protection between UPF 25 to 50 depending on how the attachment is worn.

Made from 100 percent cotton twill, the hat includes a range of sweat- and water-resistant features, including an internal sweatband and mesh-metal eyelets for ventilation. It also includes a drawstring cinch for security. The bandana, Seirus’ patented SunDana design, is seamless and made from a moisture wicking, stretchable polyester that maintains its elasticity throughout the hat’s lifetime. And when you’re not using it, just tuck the bandana inside the hat for full concealment.

Color of the hat is tan. The attached bandana is available with three neutral color patterns (solid tan, camo (gray/white), or digi (gray/charcoal). It is unisex and available in two sizes: small/medium and large/extra large.

Price is $24.99. Visit the Seirus website for a list of local and online retailers, including REI and Dick’s Sporting Goods, at www.seirus.com
