BAILEYVILLE – Verna A. Norman, 89, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012, at Colliers Nursing Home, Ellsworth. Verna was born July 16, 1922, in Calais, daughter of the late William and Jessie (Palmer) Warr.

She graduated from St. Croix High School, class of 1938; attended Miss Crabbe’s Business School, St. Stephen; and graduated from Cooley-Dickinson Nursing School, class of 1943. She married Lloyd B. Norman, Oct. 27, 1943, in Baileyville. For many years, Verna was a nurse for St. Croix Paper Co. and Georgia Pacific, as well as for Dr. Sears in Baileyville. She was one of the founding members of Woodland Baptist Church where she was the pianist for more than 50 years. In addition to being active in the church, Verna was a member of Eastern Star and Rebekah’s Lodge. She enjoyed genealogy, crossword puzzles, but most importantly spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd. Surviving are her two sons, Karl Norman and wife, Nancy, of Phippsburg, and David Norman and wife, Darlene, of Baileyville; sister, Faye E. Drake of Amarillo, Texas; three grandchildren, Mark Norman of Phippsburg, Erik Norman and wife, Meaghan, of Durham, and Carrie Norman and companion, Dustin Sullivan, of Baileyville; two great-granddaughters, Shelby and Kaitlyn; several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Verna’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Baptist Church, Baileyville. Burial will be after at Woodland Cemetery. Donations in Verna’s memory may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, 2018 South Princeton Road, Baileyville, ME
