GOULDSBORO – Mary E. Myrick, a lifetime resident of Maine, passed away at the age of 81, Monday, June 18, 2012, in Ellsworth. Mary was born May 19, 1931, to Frank and Gladys (Butler) Lewis in Fairfield.
She was raised in the Fairfield area and attended Lawrence High School. Mary learned how to work hard at a young age and it was an ethic she carried throughout her life. Mary later made her career as a civilian galley manager for the U.S. Navy. This positive attitude of diligence was also expressed in serving her family. As a single mom who raised six children by herself, one of the ways Mary expressed her love was through the fruits of this labor. She would ensure that her children, and any of their friends welcome in her home, never went without. Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving were occasions Mary always ensured were extra special. She would always spend a great deal of interest and care in the selection of the perfect gift for each person. One of the ways Mary was able to be so generous to so many was because of her frugality. Mary was always alert to a good bargain or yard sale and possessed the ability to make $100 spend like $1,000. An avid basketball and football fan, she enjoyed televised games and always attended her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Mary was very proud of her grandchildren and was mindful to ensure they always knew her pride and love of them.
She is survived by her sons, Daniel L. and his wife, Kyong, of Ellsworth, David J. and his wife, Janice, of Gouldsboro, Dana V. and his wife, Goldie, of Milbridge, Dean F. and his wife, Sonja, of Southwest Harbor, Don S. and his wife, Kim, of Cocoa, Fla.; daughter, Doreen and her husband, Charles St. Claire, of Gouldsboro; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Wanda Piper. Mary was predeceased by her parents; brother, Joe Lewis; sister, Gladys Lewis; and her grandson, Joshua Myrick.
Visiting hours will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Milbridge chapel of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes. A funeral service is scheduled for noon Friday, June 22 at Lighthouse Trinity Church, South Gouldsboro. Remembrances may be donations to the Mary Dow Cancer Center, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
