MONTICELLO – Barbara Marie Welch Swimm, 83, passed away May 29, 2012, at a local hospital. She was born April 21, 1929, in Monticello, daughter of Forrest and Roxie (Murphy) Welch.
Barbara lived most of her childhood in Bridgewater. She was a great storyteller. We loved hearing about the old days. Barbara was an avid Red Sox fan and loved watching all the Eastern Maine Basketball Tournaments. She was a member of Monticello Methodist Church, playing the piano for Sunday services. A lifetime member of Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum, Barbara was happy playing the old player piano, giving tours and helping with suppers. She was also very active in Bridgewater Historical Society and a member of the Mistletoe Club, Monticello. All who knew Barbara will testify, she was always there when someone needed her.
Barbara is survived by three daughters, Roberta Hogan, Lorraine Kinney and friend, Denny Gallop, and Lynne McNinch and husband, Daniel; eight grandchildren, Jon Bridges and wife, Tami, Lori Jewell and husband, Allen, Morgan Kinney and friend, Kate, Brady Bridges, Paul Albright and friend, Brandi, Jacob Hovey and friend, Amanda, Jirad Kinney and wife, Kim, and Lucas McGary and wife, Kaitlyn; 14 great-grandchildren, Miranda, Alexys, Ethan, Erica, little Morgan, Devin, Graden, Gabe, Kristopher, Kennedy, Katie, Mayce, Dawson and Harper; three great-great-grandchildren, Karli, Charli and Camden; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; special nieces and nephews, Jean Smith, Margaret Wiken, Ken Tidd, Jim Beckett, Andrew Tidd, Kathy and Kurt Kinney; Craig Anderson and his wife, Debbie, and their sons, Jeremy, Matthew, Scot and Christopher; her best friend, Joyce Lynds; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Swimm; infant son, Thomas Edward Lawrence; sister, Vella Welch Tidd; and brother, Ira Murphy.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunn Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Paula Lilley officiating. Interment will be at Foster Cemetery, Monticello.
