LEO P. FRIEDMAN

BANGOR – Leo P. Friedman, 95, husband of the late Evelyn (Thompson) Friedman, died Feb. 28, 2012, at a local hospital after a short illness. He was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Russia, the son of Kiva and Pauline (Fried) Friedman.

Leo served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II as a staff sergeant. He immigrated to the U.S. when he was 5 years old, to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he met his wife of 69 years and lived there until 2002, then moved to Bangor to live near their son and daughter-in-law. Leo rose from being a milkman to a manager at Helmsley-Spear, Manhattan, N.Y., and was a lifelong reader of books.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Friedman and wife, Carol, of Houston; daughter-in-law, Barbara Friedman of Glenburn; and grandson, Michael Friedman and his wife, Stephanie, of Seattle. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his son, Allen Friedman; several brothers and a sister.
