PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine produced Web series “Ragged Isle” is the big winner at the Indie Soap Awards in New York City, taking home three national awards: Best Cinematography (Barry Dodd, Derek Kimball), Best Director (Barry Dodd), and Best Drama Webseries.

“I’m still shaking. I’m so proud of the whole Ragged Isle team,” Gorham-based director Barry Dodd said. “This feels like a crazy dream full of the nicest people in the world. I’ll never forget this. Ever.”

The Indie Soap Awards, or ISAs, is a division of We Love Soaps. The awards honor the best in independent scripted, serialized programming for the Web. The awards ceremony took place Feb. 21 at the New World Stages in New York City. The ISAs are considered to be the equivalent of the Emmys in television or the Oscars for movies in the rapidly emerging world of Internet Web series.

The national recognition carries much weight with husband and wife duo Barry and Karen L. Dodd of the Entertainment Experiment, which produced the Web series purely as a labor of love. The Dodds, along with several members of the cast and crew, traveled to New York City to attend the ISAs, in which they were nominated in seven categories.

“Ragged Isle” was shot entirely in Maine using Maine actors, musicians and film crew. “Ragged Isle” is a dramatic story set on a remote Maine island shrouded in mystery. It draws inspiration from such cult classics as “The X-Files,” “Twin Peaks” and the gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows.” Featuring a cast of more than 40 local actors and more than 20 picturesque Maine locations, “Ragged Isle” is an ambitious online series. Season one (of three) is made up of 10 episodes. Seasons two and three are set to premiere later this year on the SFN network, starting in May.
