Outlook: The Black Bears have dropped three in a row and four of their last five, but are fighting to hold onto seventh place. This is the Play4Kay game at which UMaine is soliciting donations to benefit breast cancer research. UMaine continues to be spearheaded by Baranowski. The Hawks have won five straight and six of seven after Saturday’s 67-58 win over Binghamton. Hartford is tied with UMBC for third place, but will host the first three rounds of the league tourney. The Hawks feature a good blend of guards and forwards and are balanced offensively.

Men’s Basketball

Records: Maine 11-13 (5-8 America East), Hartford 6-19 (6-7)

Series, last meeting: Hartford leads 31-27, Hartford 63-49 on 1/19/12

Key players: Maine — 6-3 G Gerald McLemore (17.8 ppg, .401 3-pt. FG pct., .906 FT pct.), 6-3 G Justin Edwards (14.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.6 spg), 6-7 F Alasdair Fraser (13.6 ppg, 7.6 rpg, .565 FG pct., 1.3 bpg), 6-0 G Raheem Singleton (8.0 ppg, 3.4 apg), 6-9 F Mike Allison (7.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.4 bpg, .510 FG pct.), 5-9 G Andrew Rogers (3.4 ppg, 3.7 apg, 1.0 spg); Hartford — 5-10 G Andres Torres (12.0 ppg, 3.2 3.8 apg, 1.8 spg), 6-0 G Wes Cole (9.0 ppg), 6-6 F Nate Sikma (8.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg), 6-6 F Mark Nwakamma (8.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, .542 FG pct.), 6-2 G Yolonzo Moore (6.4 ppg)

Outlook: UMaine hopes to snap a three-game losing streak and gain a share of fifth place in the standings with Hartford. The Bears, who lost 76-68 to Albany on Saturday, played poorly in the first meeting at “The Pit.” The Hawks have won two in a row after dropping five straight. Hartford averages only 59.4 ppg and has been challenged on the boards. UMaine must start strong and stay tight on the perimeter against AE’s worst 3-point shooting team. Minimizing turnovers and preventing second shots are keys.
