AUGUSTA, Maine — A Maine woman whose 18-month-old daughter swallowed cocaine is going to jail for 90 days.

Twenty-two-year-old Jillian Jones of Bingham was sentenced Friday in Kennebec County Superior Court after pleading guilty in October to endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of cocaine.

Police say the child apparently got into the drugs in June while playing unsupervised at a home in Oakland where Jones was living with the child’s father. The baby was taken to a hospital after Jones called 911 to report her daughter wasn’t breathing.

Jones apologized at her sentencing and told the judge that she’s going to be the best mother she can be from here on out.

The Kennebec Journal reported that the drug has had no lasting effects on the toddler.
