PORTLAND, Maine — Two Maine natives have received federal appointments from President Barack Obama.
Portland lawyer William Kayatta Jr. was appointed Monday to fill a seat on the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals based in Boston.
The 58-year-old Kayatta was raised in South Portland and currently lives in Cape Elizabeth. He graduated from Amherst College and Harvard Law School.
His appointment is subject to approval by the U.S. Senate.
Obama also nominated Pamela White as ambassador to Haiti.
White is a native of Auburn and is a graduate of the University of Maine. She is currently ambassador to the African nation of Gambia.

I cannot wait until November to vote this brainless spineless leaderless elitist out of a job.
Obama, isn’t everything worse under this failure?
Gas prices up 83% since this guy got voted in by the dreamers and the misled.
I suspect that Ms. White is a career foreign service officer. She probably sees this move as a good thing, and should be thanked for working to advance America’s interests at some very difficult duty stations.
Did not take long for the venom to come out
Haiti? God bless the people of that country. They need someone from Maine to inspire them, and sign visas.
