LINCOLN, Maine — A transient and Lincoln native was being held Monday at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor after he was charged Saturday with stealing a power tool worth about $200 from an East Broadway home, police said Tuesday.
Kai Weatherbee, 30, was charged with burglary and failed to make his $860 bail after an appearance on Tuesday at the Penobscot Judicial Center, a jail spokesman said.
Police Officer John Walsh charged Weatherbee with stealing a planer tool from an attached garage at the East Broadway home in September. The tool was recovered and returned to its owner, Police Chief William Lawrence said.
Walsh was assigned the burglary case in September and recently got a tip from a resident that the planer was behind a downtown-area building. Walsh found the tool, traced it back to its owner and discovered that it had been taken in a burglary, Lawrence said.
Lawrence declined to say exactly what evidence connected Weatherbee to the burglary. He placed the planer’s value at about $200.
Police also have applied to the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office to charge Weatherbee with burglary in connection with the theft of prescription drugs from a Highland Avenue home within the last two weeks, Lawrence said. That also is Walsh’s case.
Walsh matched footprints left in the snow from the Highland Avenue home to Weatherbee shortly after the burglary was reported, Lawrence said.
Weatherbee is next due in court in Bangor on Feb. 16, a court official said.

I have nothing worong with enforcing the law but lieing for a conviction is not the right way to do it Shame on Chief William Lawrence and the Lincoln PD. They can be a descrace to the town of Lincoln.
