GUILFORD and SARASOTA, Fla. – Stuart W. Perkins, 60, died Oct. 5, 2011, in Sarasota, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 1, 1951, in Dover-Foxcroft, son of Alvin and Phyllis (Pemberton) Perkins.
Stuart graduated from Piscataquis Community High School, Guilford, Class of 1969, attended Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., and then graduated from Husson College, Bangor. He worked for Pride Manufacturing, Guilford, for many years in a variety of capacities, including human resource and production manager. In 1994, he moved to Sarasota, Fla., most recently working for Sun Hydraulics. While living in Guilford, Stuart was an active member of Guilford Fire Department. Later in life he became involved with Tidewell Hospice, Sarasota, Fla., as a volunteer. In his words working with the Tidewell Hospice was one of his most rewarding experiences. Stuart will be remembered as having the gift of never having known a stranger.
He is survived by a son, Christopher Perkins and his wife, Megan, of Sarasota, Fla.; two brothers, David Perkins and his wife, Elizabeth, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Alan Perkins and his wife, Joan, of Dartmouth, Mass.; sister, Karlyn Dawes and her husband, Frank, of Sarasota, Fla., and Bangor; and his special friend, Susie Thomas of Sarasota, Fla.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at First Methodist Church, 104 South Pineapple Ave., Sarasota, Fla., with the Rev. Art McClellan officiating. A memorial service will also be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Guilford United Methodist Church with Pastor Stephen Dean officiating. Burial will be afterward at Elmwood Cemetery, Guilford.
