PORTLAND, Maine — A group calling itself Occupy Maine has decamped from Monument Square, but the protesters aren’t going away. They have set up tents in a nearby park.

Occupy Maine maintained a presence Tuesday at Monument Square as an offshoot of an Occupy Wall Street demonstration, which started in New York City last month.

Police ordered the small band of protesters to take down a tent erected in Monument Square and said they couldn’t sleep there overnight, so the group moved a few blocks away to Lincoln Park.

The group is demonstrating against what members view as a cozy relationship between corporations and politicians that puts businesses ahead of people. On Monday, they marched and chanted: “How do we end the deficit? End the war, tax the rich!”
