ALBERT ‘RAYMOND’ HANSCOM III

SOUTHWEST HARBOR and AMHERST – Albert "Raymond" Hanscom III, 78, died Sept. 29, 2011, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. He was born June 28, 1933, in Clifton, son of Albert Raymond and Dorothy M. (Bragg) Hanscom II.

Raymond lived in Amherst and attended local schools, and then left Amherst and moved to Bar Harbor to attend high school. Raymond served in the Army and was a Korean War veteran. He retired from AT&T, New England Telephone and Verizon in 1991, after 37 years of service. Raymond was past president and served on the board of directors of Upper Union River Historical Society, Amherst, until his death, and he was a former member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Anah Temple. He was an avid farmer, enjoying the fruits of his labor. He loved to be outside with his wife, Jeany; boating, camping, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting, and being at his second home in Amherst.

Raymond is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Jeany (Lewis); three daughters, Sharon and Peter Farnsworth of Coburn Gore, Patricia and William Howard of Trenton, and Mary and Brian Gordius of Bass Harbor; two stepsons, Peter and Susan Carroll of Pampa, Texas, and Michael and Jan Carroll of Southwest Harbor; two sisters, Connee Jellison of San Antonio, and Ada Hatch and husband, Urban, of Salisbury Cove; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Dale and Walter V.; and two sisters, Hazel and Kathleen.

Friends are invited to call 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3.
