Lewiston police warn about street drugs after 19-year-old’s death

LEWISTON, Maine — Police are warning people to avoid any type of street drugs after the death of a young man who was disoriented and combative before he died at a local hospital.

Police said officers dealt with two young men shortly before 2 a.m. Friday who were exhibiting bizarre behavior and required medical attention.

In the first case, 19-year-old Andrew Jackson of Lewiston died after being taken to Central Maine Medical Center.

In the second case, a man who was found passed out in his car also exhibited bizarre behavior and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.

Police say the men were together earlier in the night and may have ingested hallucinogenic mushrooms and other illegal drugs. Police say it’s possible the mushrooms were laced with some other drug.
