MILBRIDGE and HARRINGTON – On Aug. 1, 2011, Margaret Grover Worcester, 90, went home to be with our Lord. She was a patient at Narraguagus Bay Health Center, Milbridge. Margaret was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Sherman Mills, to Sylvia Jennie (Curtis) and Edward Joseph Melanson. She was the fifth child of nine, and the only surviving sibling.

Margaret was an avid crossword puzzler and best known for her ability to sew, crochet and knit for her family and others. She would make mittens and hats, and donate them to schools, churches, Salvation Army and many other organizations. One of her most satisfying accomplishments was to receive her Narraguagus High School diploma at age 60, which was presented to her by her granddaughter, Rebecca Skinner, during the June graduation ceremony. She devoted her life to being the best mother and grandmother God has created. She did work for a short time at Roy Ray’s fish factory, but preferred to be a full-time mother.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 50 years, Lawrence Everett Grover of Harrington; and by her second husband of 17 years, Alden Moses Worcester Jr. of East Corinth. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Skinner and her husband, Harold, of Harrington and Springhill, Fla.; her son, Larry Grover and his wife, Karen, of Livonia, N.Y.; and her daughter, Lorna Davis and Herbert Christen of Bangor. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Bob and Dinah Worcester of Old Town, Gene and Pam Worcester of Gouldsboro, Brenda Worcester of Brewer, and Betty and John Alder of Washington, Conn.; her grandchildren, Rebecca Skinner and Ubby Crowley of Addison, Lawrence “Lance” and Carla Skinner of Nobelboro, Troy and Cheryl Davis of Stewartstown, Pa., Paul Davis of Greene, Penny Davis and Jim Pullen of Bangor; great-grandchildren, Renee and Sabrina Skinner, Katie and Lindsey Crowley, Aaron and Corey Davis, Samantha and Jamie Pullen; her aunt, Annie Shepherd of Milbridge; four sisters-in-law, Bessie Melanson of Hartland, Betty Grover of Milbridge, Lois Pratt of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Betty Klein of Nevada City, Calif.; her one brother-in-law, William Grover of Waterville; many nieces and nephews, and one niece in particular, Pamela Look, who kept her supplied with many home cooked meals and desserts.

Visiting hours will be 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Faith United Methodist Church, Columbia. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Harrington. A celebration of life with light refreshments will be held after the interment at Faith United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
