JONESPORT – Gwendolyn Reed, 75, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 5, 2011, with her family by her side. She was born Dec. 18, 1934, to parents Otis and Helen (Wass) Hartford of Harrington.

Gwendolyn taught school in New Jersey, Connecticut and Maine for 38 years, the last 17 at Jonesport Elementary School. She loved the theatre, especially the role she played as a drama coach to her junior high students. Gwendolyn was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and for many years was a huge supporter of the University of Maine women’s basketball program. Gwen was a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Clarence; daughter, Wendy Reed of Belfast; sisters, Calista Goodrich of Florida, Lillian and Jack Phinney of Bangor, Mae and Walter Wilberding of Missouri; many nieces and nephews. Gwen was predeceased by her mother and father; and baby brother, Charles.

Visiting hours with the family will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 9, at Jonesboro Union Church with interment immediately after at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport.
