8 displaced by Portsmouth fire; no injuries

The Associated Press

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — New Hampshire firefighters say eight people were forced from their home by a fire in a four-unit apartment building in Portsmouth.

Officials say a resident called 911 at about 5 p.m. Sunday after seeing smoke coming from a ceiling light fixture. There were no injuries.

Portsmouth Assistant Chief Steve Achilles says firefighters discovered the fire extended from the left side of the first floor and across to the right side of the unit between the rafters.

Fire crews from four New Hampshire communities and Kittery, Maine, responded to the fire and helped provide station coverage.
