GUILFORD, Maine — Roland Scott Cookson, 44, of Wharff Road in Guilford was arrested Monday by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency on charges of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.

Over the past few months, MDEA agents purchased prescription narcotics from Cookson on two occasions, MDEA division commander Darrell Crandall said Tuesday.

Crandall also alleged that Cookson had an assortment of prescription narcotics on his person when he was arrested Monday afternoon. He said Cookson tried to throw the pills away when agents arrived at his residence but the pills were recovered.

The prescription narcotics included oxycodone, morphine, Ritalin, Adderall and hydrocodone, according to Crandall.

Cookson, who was convicted in 1986 of reckless conduct with use of a dangerous weapon, a felony, was taken to the Piscataquis County Jail on Monday and released on $750 unsecured bail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for May 23 in Dover-Foxcroft District Court.
