VICTORIA, Texas – Fred L. Hayes, 60, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011, at home. He was born July 22, 1950, in Dover-Foxcroft, to Donald P. Hayes and Paulita Smyle Hayes.
He graduated from Husson College in Bangor, with a degree in business. Fred always had a great love for children and was an active member of the GISD school board for 12 years. His other interests included owning and operating Empresario Restaurant for seven years, during which time he made many friends and touched many lives. He was an entrepreneur in various other local business and real estate ventures.
He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, Heath Allen; and his wife, Sharon, the mother of his children. He will be sadly missed by his partner of many years, Beverly Evans; his children, Hilary Dawn Hayes and her fiance, Cameron Dedear, Dustin Fred Hayes, Keri Baumgartner and her husband, Michael, Kortney Therreault and her husband, Peter, and Kris Aiken; his brother, Paul and his wife, Jan; his sisters, Hope Dennis and her husband, Alan, and Dawn Noack and her husband, David. He will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Cowboy Church, located in the Julie Wimberly Building at Goliad Fair Grounds. There will be a committal service in his hometown in Maine at a later date. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations may be made to the Fred Hayes Scholarship Fund, care of GISD Superintendent’s Office, 161 North Welch St., Goliad, TX 77963, or to a charity of your choice. Victoria Mortuary and Cremation Service is in charge of local arrangements.
