ALFRED, Maine — A Maine man who fatally shot two brothers during a late-night confrontation continued to proclaim his innocence before being sentenced to life in prison.

Rory Holland of Biddeford told a judge Monday that 19-year-old Gage Green and his 21-year-old brother, Derek, were the instigators. Their mother left the courtroom when he proclaimed that the Lord “justly gave Derek and Gauge Green their death.”

Afterward, remaining spectators broke into applause after the judge imposed a pair of life prison sentences and adjourned the hearing in York County Superior Court in Alfred.

Holland was convicted in November of two counts of murder. Holland claimed that he shot the brothers in self-defense, but prosecutors said he had no justification in pulling a handgun from his waistband and gunning down his victims.
