AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine utility regulators are inviting bids from companies interested in developing offshore wind and tidal energy projects.

The Public Utilities Commission announced the bids last week and initial proposals are to be submitted to the commission by May 1, 2011.

During its 2010 session, the Maine Legislature passed a law requiring the PUC to invite bids by Sept. 1, 2010. The law allows the PUC to authorize one or more long-term contracts for offshore wind pilot projects and demonstration tidal projects.
