Lisbon man found guilty of attempt to kill officer

The Associated Press

AUBURN, Maine — A Maine man accused of ramming two police cars with his dump truck two years ago has been found guilty of aggravated attempted murder.

Authorities say 49-year-old Bartolo Ford of Lisbon stole concrete cylinders from a business and was confronted by Auburn police in September 2008. During the chase, two cruisers that officers were driving were rammed, one of them head-on. Ford was shot in the leg and found hours later walking alongside a road.

Auburn police say Ford was found guilty on seven counts Friday in Androscoggin County Superior Court.

Ford’s lawyer has said that Ford’s experience in the Gulf War and mental illness contributed to his actions.

Sentencing is set for the end of September. Ford faces up to 20 years in prison.
