Starting today, the Bangor Daily News will be improving the way readers share and comment on stories.

Our new comment system, powered by Disqus, lets readers log in using existing IDs from Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo and other sites around the Web or with a standard sign-on process.

The new system makes our site easier to use, and creates new ways for readers to share stories they care about. If you choose, your BDN comments can be posted to your Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or WordPress accounts. Or, keep private and create a Disqus ID for our site alone. The choice is yours.

We’ve also improved the way comments appear – if you want to respond to another reader’s comment, you can reply to that specific comment. This keeps the conversations easier to read and rewards thoughtful discussions. Readers can elect to receive responses to their posts by e-mail, so you’ll never miss a conversation.

Readers can also vote on the comments they find valuable – and those comments will rise to the top. Or, you can read the most recent comments first – again, the choice is up to you.

Please give the new process a try and let us know what you think in the comment box below.

Guidelines for posting on bangordailynews.com

The Bangor Daily News encourages comments about stories, but you must follow our terms of service.

In brief:

  1. Keep it civil and stay on topic
  2. No vulgarity, racial slurs, name-calling or personal attacks.
  3. People who harass others or joke about tragedies will be blocked.

The primary rule here is pretty simple: Treat others with the same respect you'd want for yourself. Here are some guidelines (see more):
