WESTFIELD, Maine — A local man who walked away from the boarding home he resides in was located early Monday morning almost 22 hours after he left the facility on Tweedie Road just south of Presque Isle.

State police Sgt. Brian Harris said Monday that Lloyd Jandreau, 69, was found at 7:30 a.m. at a residence on Route 1 in Westfield.

Harris located the man, a resident of the Southern Acres Boarding Home, after receiving reports from the public about sightings of Jandreau in the area.

Just after 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jandreau left the boarding home to go for a walk. Employees notified police and a search began a short time later.

Harris said he could not comment on whether Jandreau suffers from dementia or another disorder that might have contributed to his wandering from the facility. He also said he couldn’t say whether Jandreau meant to leave the facility.

Jandreau is from the Portage area, and police initially suspected that he might be headed that way.

Harris said that the 69-year-old spent the night in the woods in the Westfield area and was located as he came out of the woods in the morning. Harris said that Jandreau had a jacket with him and temperatures did not drop very low overnight.

Crown Ambulance responded after Jandreau was found and took him to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle as a precaution.

He was treated and released Monday afternoon, according to a hospital official.

Harris said that police are grateful to the public for assisting with the effort to find Jandreau.
