Boy charged in attack on mother

ELLSWORTH, Maine — A 14-year-old boy is facing charges alleging that he beat up his mother, according to police.

Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department said Tuesday that the boy may have broken or dislocated his mother’s jaw in the attack that allegedly took place on Monday.

Page did not disclose the name of the juvenile boy.

The boy has been charged with aggravated assault and is being held at Mountain View Correctional Center in Charleston, according to Page.

The alleged assault occurred at a home on Gary Moore Road around noon Monday, Page said. The boy and his sister were having an argument over a digital music player when the mother intervened and took the device away from her children, he said.

The boy then “went off,” Page said. After the alleged assault, the boy ran off into nearby woods and had to be tracked down by the Police Department’s canine unit, he said.

In addition to the injuries to her jaw, the mother also suffered cuts and scrapes in the incident, Page said.

Page said the mother was taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital for treatment. He wasn’t sure Tuesday afternoon whether she still was in the hospital or had been released Monday.

The Bangor Daily News typically does not print the names of victims of crimes.
