MONSON, Maine — A net municipal budget of $685,069 will be up for voter action at the annual town meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 15.
The proposed plan reflects a decrease of $24,872 over this year.
“We cut really hard in the majority of our departments this year,” Town Manager Julie Anderson said Tuesday. She said no raises are included in the budget, which includes a lower custom insurance plan for town employees for a savings of about $1,200.
No funds for paving projects or building improvements are included in the proposed budget because of the economy, Anderson said.
“We’re just not doing anything extra this year,” she said. Anderson did note that some paving and culvert work left over from the current budget will be completed this year.
Among the articles facing voter action is acceptance of the former Monson Elementary School. A public hearing regarding the school will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 8. Both the public hearing and a potluck supper that will precede the meeting at 5:30 p.m. will be held at the school.
“We’re looking at all possibilities for the building,” Anderson said. If residents accept the building from SAD 68, the possibilities include public use of the multipurpose room for different functions and the use of other rooms for small businesses.
Elections will include a selectman for a three-year term.
