Were breast cancer screening recommendations overly cautious?

A report that suggested many protocols for breast cancer screening were overly cautious caused heated controversy among physicians and others. The argument in favor of waiting until women are 50 before getting routine mammograms is that there were too many false positive test results, resulting in unnecessary surgery and unwarranted anxiety.
