NEWPORT, Maine — The Maine State Police are asking hunters in the Newport area to be on the lookout for any hunting or camping items they might find in the woods.

Police are still searching for a hunting rifle as part of their investigation into the Oct. 26 shooting death of 75-year-old Perley Goodrich Sr. at his Newport home.

Goodrich’s son, 45-year-old Perley Goodrich Jr., was missing for four days after the shooting.

Police say two guns were located after the shooting, but the rifle is still missing.

The younger Goodrich was captured at a Newport convenience store four days after the shooting.

Goodrich is now facing murder charges.

Police have not said publicly where Goodrich was between the shooting and his capture.
