AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Gov. John Baldacci is using his weekend radio address to tout the success of the federal economic stimulus money spent in the state.

He says that in the first six months stimulus money created thousands of jobs, saved many more and helped Maine families “through the most challenging economy of our time.”

As for transportation project, he says 64 out of 71 projects have been started and 27 have been completed, including the reconstruction of the northbound lanes of Interstate 295. Overall, he says transportation and clean-water projects alone directly employed more than 3,400 people.

States were required to report on how they spent stimulus money on Oct. 10. He says Maine’s spending report is online for those who want details at www.maine.gov/recovery.
