PORTLAND, Maine — Building owners and managers of a Portland landmark are touting improvements that have reduced energy and maintenance costs with some help from the Efficiency Maine Business program.

Owners and managers of the 13-story One City Center were facing high energy costs, increased operating costs and an aging infrastructure. They say they’ve reduced operating and energy costs by 17 percent a year and anticipate additional maintenance cost savings of 50 percent or more for 2010.

Owners and managers used a $137,000 rebate from the Efficiency Maine Business program, which provides cash incentives to help businesses with upgrades that help the environment.
