AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Superior Court Justice Joseph Jabar of Waterville has won a legislative committee’s unanimous endorsement for a state supreme court seat, virtually assuring his confirmation by the full Senate next Monday.

Gov. John Baldacci nominated Jabar, of Waterville, to fill the seat of retiring Justice Robert Clifford. The 63-year-old Jabar has served eight years on the Superior Court bench. He is a former district attorney and worked several years in private practice.

The Kennebec Journal in Augusta says Jabar received endorsements from the state bar and trial lawyers’ associations during a hearing before the judiciary Committee on Thursday.
