PORTLAND, Maine — Game wardens say the death of a man over the weekend marked the second time in three days that someone was swept away by a fast-moving river in Maine.

Wardens say a man swimming with his fiancee and dog on the Presumpscot River got caught up in fast-moving water Sunday. They say the body of 39-year-old Matthew Potvin of Portland was found about 200 yards downstream from where he’d been swimming with 39-year-old Meghan Devine, also of Portland.

Wardens say they were swimming near the Windham-Standish town line Sunday.

The warden service says the recent rains brought the swift waters. On Friday night, a 16-year-old Pennsylvania girl nearly went over a waterfall after she was swept downstream on the Penobscot River. She was wearing a life jacket and survived.
