PORTLAND, Maine — Police say three young men face robbery charges after a man and a woman were robbed at knifepoint during the early morning in Portland.

The Portland Press Herald said a man flagged down a police cruiser at 1 a.m. Thursday to report that he and his female companion were accosted by a large group of men at the corner of Madison and Anderson streets. The man told police that one of the men flashed a knife and that the robbers took his wallet, credit cards and a cell phone.

A short time later, police spotted a group of men matching the description of the robbers.

The men charged with the robbery were identified as 23-year-old Abdi Awad, 20-year-old Ismail Awad and 22-year-old Tsegai Biniam.
