LINCOLN – Laurie Marie Bennett, 56, wife of John Bennett, died April 18, 2009, at her home, after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 8, 1952, in Lincoln, the daughter of John and Jeanette (Jordan) Olsen. Laurie was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy, Class of 1970. On Jan. 30, 1971, she married her best friend, John Bennett. She was known for her crafts and painting. She was a member of Lincoln First Congregational Church, where she was an active member of Pilgrim Daughter’s, Sister’s Group and Bean Supper Committee, and served one term as deacon. She enjoyed camping at Abol Bridge Campground and paddling her kayak up the river to Baxter Bay and “Tadpole Terrace.” In addition to her husband, John, of Lincoln, she is survived by two daughters, Carolee Sherwood and David of Castleton, N.Y., and Kimberlee Bennett of Westbrook; a brother, Larry Harding of Louisiana; a sister, Dena Rusak of New Jersey; three grandsons, Benjamin, Jackson and Davin Sherwood, all of Castleton, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Myron Harding, who treated her as his own. Family and friends are welcome to gather 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Lincoln Congregational Church. Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery at a later date.
