SONIA R. (CALL) BARTLETT

PITTSFIELD – Sonia R. (Call) Bartlett, 72, died April 13, 2009, at her residence. She was born March 2, 1937, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Aubrey B. and Barbara F. Call. Sonia graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1955 and Webber College in 1957. She married N. Blake Bartlett, a member of the Maine Central Institute faculty, June 13, 1959. In 1972 Sonia and Blake purchased E. D. Call & Son Memorials, which they operated, along with managing Pittsfield Village Cemeteries, retiring in 2002. Along with raising three children, Sonia was an active member in Pittsfield Athenaeum Club, Arts Club, Sebasticook Valley Hospital Auxiliary and the Universalist Church Women’s Club. She served as a troop counselor for the Girl Scouts of America program in Pittsfield and hosted several “overnighters” at her cottage on Unity Pond. Images – paddling her kayak on a sunny afternoon with “Taffy” on Unity Pond; dancing with Blake to Lee’s music at the American Legion on Treasure Island; running, hand-in-hand, with Brynna and Riley on Jacksonville Beach. Sonia is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Blake; their daughter, Shanna and her husband, Brian Ferri, of Hernando, Miss.; their son, Aaron and his wife, Wendy; her two grandchildren, Riley and Brynna, of Olive Branch, Miss.; and their son, Jason and his wife, Angela, of Pittston. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother. Sonia especially requested that a heartfelt thank you be expressed to her dear friends and to the “Coffee Gals” for their thoughtful and loving cards, letters and e-mails of support throughout the past year. At Sonia’s request, a time for friends with a memorial and committal service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. Interment will be attended by family only at Pittsfield Village Cemetery. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution for student scholarships may be made in her memory to Bossov Ballet Theatre, Maine Central Institute, 295 Main St., Pittsfield, ME 04967.
