BANGOR and CORINTH – Eloise M. Hannington, 91, died Jan. 19, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born March 19, 1917, in Bancroft, the daughter of Thomas W. and Grace L. (Cox) Hannington. Eloise was quick-witted and brought a smile to everyone’s face. She attended the former West Corinth Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there. She then became a member of Corinth United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sisters, Adelia Caputo and Ethel Mathews, both of Bangor; a brother, George Hannington of Lawton, Okla.; a nephew, Wynn Dwelley and his wife, Linda, of Bangor; several other nieces and nephews; and two foster sons, Del Spencer of the Dominican Republic and Carl Spencer of Portland. She was predeceased by a sister, Doris Vail of Canada. The family thanks the staff at Phillips-Strickland House for the many friendships she had there, as well as the wonderful care given to her. Relatives and friends are invited to call 1-2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Cynthia Nickerson, pastor of Corinth United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
