A typical household may use 200 cubic feet of water each month to flush toilets, or 25 percent of total water usage. A good guess may be that the water in the tank, between flushes, increases in temperature 10 degrees. The energy that “goes down the drain” is equivalent to the constant operation of a 50-watt light bulb.
