MARS HILL and HOULTON – Ruby M. Wiggins, 90, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at a Houlton healthcare facility. She was born Dec. 5, 1913, in Wicklow, New Brunswick, the daughter of Jerry and Alma (Durost) DeMerchant. Ruby was a housewife and worked in the potato harvest for several years. She also enjoyed embroidering. She is survived by three sons, James and his wife, Arlene, of Mars Hill, Dean and his wife, Carmen, of Presque Isle, Arlington and his wife, Jean, of Mars Hill; two daughters, Anna Mae Bradford and her husband, John, of Houlton, Pamela Glidden and her husband, Maurice, of Bangor; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruby was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Jimmie F. Wiggins; three brothers, Russell, Perley and Leo DeMerchant; and a sister, Ella Fulton. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill with the Revs. Harold Fulton and Gardiner Smith officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Ruby’s memory to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.
