AUGUSTA – Miss Rose Marion Gardiner, 86, formerly of Presque Isle, fell asleep in the Lord Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at MaineGeneral Medical Center and awaits His second coming, and will meet him in the air. She had been a resident of MaineGeneral Medical Center Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge since August 2005. She was the daughter of Levi J. and Velda (Briggs) Gardiner. She was born April 8, 1920. A 1937 graduate of Mapleton High School, she received her AB degree in theology from New England School of Theology, Boston, Mass., in 1940, and completed one semester at Aroostook State Teachers College, Presque Isle. She traveled to China as a missionary in 1948, and taught fourth and fifth grades in Sheriden and fourth grade in Mapleton. She was employed by the federal government in civil service as a purchasing agent for 28 years, retiring in 1982; having worked at bases in Maine, Virginia and New Hampshire. Miss Gardiner was a foster parent for several years. She held various offices in the Advent Christian Church, was a Sunday school teacher, worked in children’s ministry; served on the camp meeting board for Aroostook Valley Park, Presque Isle and was secretary of the Maine State Women’s Home & Foreign Mission Society for many years. She was a member of the West Chapman Advent Christian Church. She was predeceased by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, a nephew, a niece and a great-niece. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Hazel (Corey) Gardiner of Mapleton, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at the West Chapman Advent Christian Church. It will be preceded by a light luncheon after the 10:45 a.m. morning worship service. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Chapman Advent Christian Church, Mrs. Lynnelle Lavway, Treasurer, 1861 State Rd., Castle Hill, ME 04757.
