WESTPORT ISLAND – Mary L. Wright, 80, of Ferry Road, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, with her loving family by her side. She was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Farmingdale, the daughter of William and Elsie James Daigle. She attended local schools there. On April 14, 1943, she married Adrien H. Wright and they made their home on Westport Island. Mary had a passion for playing the piano and entertaining. In her younger years she and her sister would travel around, entering all the local talent shows as the Daigle Sisters. Her family commented that she always played the piano at family gatherings, and it only took a piano and a request and she would play all evening long. Every song was always her favorite. Mary never took a piano lesson; she played strictly by ear and had been playing since the age of three. She also loved going on long rides with her husband, which usually ended with dinner at a local restaurant. Mary always had beautiful flower gardens around her home. She was very knowledgeable of all the different varieties of plants in her garden and was especially proud of her beautiful dahlias. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bath. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years on Dec. 15, 1998; and one sister, Rita Garland. She is survived by her son, William A. and his wife, Jeanine Wright, of Columbia; two brothers, John Daigle of Vermont, and Norman Daigle of Litchfield; three sisters, Bertha Melnuk of Wiscasset, Lorraine Wright of Litchfield, and Nancy Boudreau of Brunswick; five grandchildren, Lisa Merritt of East Machias, Lynn Bjornson of Eliot, Mark Wright of Columbia, Sarah Cherne of Eliot, and Wayne Wright of Ellsworth; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
