SCARBOROUGH and PATTEN – Kenneth Joseph Zwicker, 73, formerly of Wakefield, Mass., died Thursday, July 31, 2008, surrounded by his family at home in Scarborough, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Wakefield, Mass., a son of Gerome and Stella Lewis Zwicker. He attended Medford schools and Northeast Aero Tech. Mr. Zwicker served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He married Virginia “Pidgie” Camberlain, Oct. 31, 1959. He worked as an airline mechanic for Northeast Airlines, Boston, and was later transferred to Portland for Delta Airlines. He retired after 33 years of service. After retiring from Delta, Joe followed his dream of owning his own establishment by opening Shin Pond Pub, Mount Chase. He was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling. He was often seen digging clams and catching stripers at Higgins Beach. Joe was an avid gardener and cook. He very much enjoyed spending time at his second home in Patten. He loved his family very much and took pleasure in entertaining his family and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Loretta Minott; and a brother, William Zwicker. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Zwic-ker of Scarborough; his son, Scott Zwicker and his wife, Cindy, of Westbrook; his daughters, Bonnie Hicks and her husband, Greg, of Windham, and Amy Mihill of Portland; five sisters, Octavia “Teddy” Schultz of New Jersey, Lola McCarthy of Massachusetts, Gloria Carle of Virginia, Romona “Monie” Coates of Maine and Corita Johnson of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Eliza and Samuel; many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4. Interment will be at a later date at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 297 Cumberland Ave., Portland, ME 04101.
